Yamaha YPR50 76-Note Digital Piano

Full, 32-note polyphony lets you play complex sustained chords and passages without cutting off the notes. The pianist feature automatically chooses the most appropriate of 20 piano accompaniment styles. Simply hold down one key, or play the full chord, and the YPR50 will accompany in that style, instantly and effortlessly making your performances sound more professional.

Yamaha offers a variety of voices as well. Thanks to sophisticated stereo sampling, the grand piano voice is especially realistic; other voices include piano, harpsichord, organ, and string--each created from digital recordings of actual instruments.

A left-hand accompaniment feature can record and play two hands independently. The left hand records on track one while the right hand records on track two, letting you practice one hand at a time. The YPR50's built-in digital performance memory, with fast-forward, rewind, pause, and play, makes it easy to record practice sessions.

Also featured is a metronome with modifiable time signatures that you can turn on and off for practice purposes. Just for fun, Yamaha provides a built-in song library that consists of 20 popular piano songs and a companion music book for learning and playing along, using provided melody guides.

MIDI in/out jacks let you integrate your electronic piano with a state-of-the-art music production system. If the two speakers and their 3-watt amplifiers get too loud, Yamaha provides a headphone jack so you can create melodies without disturbing others (headphones aren't included).

The YPR50 comes with a keyboard stand, a music stand, and a sustain pedal at an affordable price. You can plug it into the wall with an adapter, or run it with six D-size batteries (not included).

It comes with wooden stand, sustain pedal, music stand, music books, and adapter - basically everything you need!

The sound is beautiful. No annoying electronic sound I was afraid of. After playing music from past lessons such as Sonatinen, I also discovered that 76 keys are quite sufficient.

After 6 months, I have no complaint.
It's definitely a great buy.

For what it costs, the YPR50 is easily top of its class. Touch sensitive keys and a sustain pedal make for as a real a piano experience as possible for the price. The realistic Grand Piano sound and the hardwood stand give it an extra realistic appeal.

Weighted keys would have completed the YPR50. The absence of weighted keys is natural for the price but detracts from the real piano playing experience. For the beginning to intermediate pianist and even for the serious pianist on a tight budget, the YPR50 is a great value for money.

If you're willing to spend a little more though, you should look into a weighted key digital piano such as the Yamaha YPD series.

Draw backs : The sustain pedal is as flimsy as they get. With no weighted anchor, it flips around annoyingly.

I am very happy with this digital piano. Originally I wanted a regular piano, but even the used pianos listed in the newspaper can get pricey. This product solved my needs. Because of the stand, this instrument is more like a piece of furniture in the room, not some flimsy keyboard. And yet, unlike a piano, this Yamaha Digital Piano is easy to move around if one needs to. The stand is made out of pressed wood, is very sturdy, and does the job nicely. It was simple to put together, all I needed was a phillips screw driver. The wood is black in color. (The Amazon photo can sometimes make it look brown.) The full-size 76 keys on it are wonderful to have and allows one to play any piece of music without limitations. There is a music stand on top of the keyboard for convenience. The sound is rich and pleasant. There are five voices: Grand Piano (sounds wonderful), Electric Piano, Organ, Strings, and Harpsichord. Another great attribute to this instrument is the sustain pedal. It's terrific! No sacrificing from a tradition piano. If you're a student you will have the elements you need to learn appropriately. Though the stated Amazon offer doesn't provide an adapter to plug into the wall (one would have to purchase it separately) instead of using batteries, surprisingly my shipment arrived with a sticker on the box saying, "Bonus adapter included". And sure enough the adapter was included, no additional purchase to make. Amazon's technical details page on this product states the unit is 161 lbs. That's probably a typo. My shipment arrived from UPS rather quickly in a box about 5 ft. long and 3 ft. high with a weight of 46 lbs.... Overall, Yamaha has come up with an exceptional product to allow one to have a piano in their home when a traditional piano is out of the budget. The stand provides the full appreciation of sitting down to a wonderful instrument. I've read someone else's post saying it's not right to learn piano on anything other than a traditional piano. I think differently with this product. This product has all the concerns needed, and the sound wasn't sacrificed. There are also plenty of other features I didn't mention. Yamaha did their homework. It's nice to hear piano being played in the home.

I've been needing a new keyboard for some of my random wedding gigs. My pals Ben Wa and Geraldine kept begging me to play at their wedding. I soon understood the nature of the importance they had presented me with. They were having a mock Elvis wedding. Geraldine looked fabu with her Priscilla wig. They even had some very nice plastic champagne glasses that I took home, they work just fine if you wash them. I didn't end up buying the keyboard for that wedding, but I did get it as a suprise gift for myself. I was so suprised, at how much I really liked it. I was so glad I liked. It had a strong stand which really comes in handy for my new age version of "Who Let The Dogs Out/Macarena Medley". The pressure sensitive keys set my fingers ablaze with emotion. It is a superior function that I know will come in handy in preparing for my rendition of "Stan" by Eminem with Sir Elton John. The only thing I would change(and did!) is the sustain pedal. It didn't seem as stationary as I would have liked, so I replaced it with the chrome foot shaped pedal from my 76' Chevy Van. I think this is a nice balance in price and performance. Overall the best feature is a nice "feel". When I come back around from a 360' kick to Gaigi Tah Chop, I have to hit those keys just right. A necessary skill for the piano-man.
