Sony dual recorder January 7, 2009 Very happy with the video and audio it was a great improvement over my 18 month old cheap one. The on screen display is great it just takes a while to load up. I am happy!
DVD-R/VCR/HD Tuner Combo January 6, 2009 I bought this product for 3 reasons: 1)DVD recorder, 2)HD Tuner and 3)it's a Sony. This product has met and exceeded my expectations. Right out of the box it's been an excellent product. It immediately found all the HD and analog stations in my area with just the rabbit ear antenna on my tv. I've already recorded with the VCR and dubbing from VHS tape to DVD and the picture and sound quality are wonderful. Everything plugs into this box: the satellite dish, the stereo receiver and even my 6-disk CD/DVD changer. This is important, especially for the older tv's that don't have many input and output options in the back.
If I have to find any drawbacks it would have to be ease of use. You have to read the owners manual carefully! This is a very complicated machine and you have to follow the steps carefully for results. Anyone who is intimidated by this sort of technology may want to do more homework with other like products in case there is an easier to use one. However, once you read and follow the steps in the manual you'll be pleased with the results.
Great Digital DVD-VCR Combo January 5, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this unit as a replacement for our analog Sony DVD-VCR combo, and all of its functions have worked flawlessly. We receive over-the-air digital TV signals, and the automatic set-up took only a few minutes. With our 30-year-old rooftop antenna, the tuner picks up not only the local stations but also those from a city 45 miles away. I've played and recorded both DVDs (using DVD+RW) and VHS tapes, and everything has worked without a hitch. The picture quality, using our Sony HD TV and an HDMI connection, is great. The menus and manual are easy to understand. Amazon delivered the unit promptly and in perfect condition.
Sony DVD/VCR December 30, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The picture quality was very poor. It was also difficult to program. I returned it to Amazon and purchased a Toshiba DVD/VCR which is much better (and less expensive).
Get this, not the Panasonic! December 20, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I wrote a positive review earlier for a Panasonic DVD/VHS with tuner, but then it started locking up on me (just like the other reviews said!), so I am retracting my review. Now, I took back the Panny and got the Sony; what a difference. Very easy to set up; it only took about 4 minutes to scan all the channels; picture looks great on TV and on DVDS, and dubbing VHS to DVD is easy. The Sony just seems more intuitive to operate than the Panny.
