Pretty good bang for the buck November 24, 2008 My wife and I decided to purchase this for my baby boy's bedroom. The good news is for the price it's hard to beat. The cons are it DOES NOT charge my nano. This is a pain. The volume control is a little cheap and difficult to set to the right volume. Other than that I have no complaints. We may purchase another unit that can charge the iPod that will stay in his room and utilzie this one for traveling. I can't think of a better unit to use for traveling. It is small, light, and works pretty well.
Good performance for the price June 27, 2008 Looking for a small set of speakers for my IPOD in my office, I found this little set of speakers by Altec Lansing. I set it up without reading the manual. Simply push the button, mount the IPOD and push the power button. A volume control in the upper right hand edge is simplicity in the making.
The volume is decent from a small set of speakers and no distortion is noted with various artists. I even watched a movie on the IPOD, while at work (SHHHH! It was at the end of the day, anyways).
The footprint is compact, with a glossy black finish. Construction is solid but I don't think it is impact resistant.
No remote control feature here.
However, if you need a compact set of speakers, this is the best value.
Broke after 1 year January 29, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
This unit sounds good, but after 1 year it suddenly won't turn on anymore. One would expect it to last longer.
Great unit! C/S Sucks and bad construction perhaps? October 15, 2007 2 out of 8 found this review helpful
I had mine for 4 months (bought it in April and it broke in August). I bought mine from Wal-Mart (90 days). I bought the unit for the name on it, Altec Lansing (my current computer speakers are over 10 years old and they still sound amazing...great construction, great sound! Back when AL did a GREAT job?).
To my suprise, it broke after only 4 uses. Yes, four! The little flap that helps the unit sit up on the back, just BROKE off. Serious...no super glue was going to fix this unit.
Immediately, I called Wal-Mart. They won't take it back, it's been "more than 90 days". Keep in mind, I frequent this Wal-Mart every other day! They know me and know that I wouldn't return the unit for anything! But, rules are rules. I asked them what I should do. They told me to call Altec Lansing.
Pfft..WORD OF WARNING! DO NOT EXPECT ANYONE who SOUNDS like they ENJOY their job here. They all sound dead. Not only that, Customer Service is so poor...sucks comes no where near what they offer. The first guy, didn't even put my name in the system. Offered "send it here_______*insert address*". No offer of "we'll ship you a label" no "we'll reimburse you for the shipping"...nothing. Included with my unit, I composed a letter asking if they would consider keeping the unit and allowing me to "upgrade" with them. Truly, I don't see why they would say NO, it's not like Wal-Mart didn't already send them the money and now my contract is with them? Anyhow, I called the second time in hopes that I can have them reimburse me for the $53.00 shipping and handling with UPS. Guess what the answer was? Just guess...a flat non emotional...void of life or feelings for the other person...NO. I asked if they would consider keeping the unit (as they already made there money from me simply by shipping and paying for the unit at WM and they already gave them the money) and allow me to upgrade and let me pay the difference on a higher model (IM3C?). Again, no. They said "that's ridiculous what you are asking for one and we won't reimburse you for the shipping because YOU DID NOT BUY IT FROM OUR SITE. If you HAD bought it from OUR site, we would have reimbursed you." So, I said "oh, so if I bought something from Staples or Fry's (which I would never step foot in Fry's again...yes, I said NEVER!) you wouldn't send me a label for shipping even through them?". Again, flat no...i don't get it! Do they NOT want repeat customers? Their loss, ipod's gain! I am so angry at how NON customer service Lack of SUPPORT....this company has...truly. They should just close shop and start all over.
Oh...after I sent my UNIT 2 days express....a DEWEY signed for the package. It is Oct. 15 2007 and they still haven't sent anything nor have they called me (which all my contact information was in the letter with my receipt). I had to call them and NOT TO MY SUPRISE...I wasn't even in the system. Now, they tell me it will take another week or so to get my new unit.....
This company SUCKS! Do yourself a favor, go iPod for EVERYTHING....this company truly does not deserve your hard earned money....
Save yourself the headache and don't assume the customer service reps will help cause, they wont. They will do as little as possible to help.
As for the unit, it's decent for the beach. I would say if you are standing up on the blanket and at the foot of your towel, you cannot hear the music. But, if you were laying on the blanket and the unit is close by your head...you can hear fine. So, that being mentioned....it's nice cause....your neighbors won't be forced to listen to your (or mine which is all Disney stuff-hey I bought this for my 2 year old girl!) :) music....
I hope this helps...seriously...save YOUR MONEY...do not send it to this company....run!
Decent on Low Volumes September 10, 2007 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
Bad sound on the high volumes. Why even offer higher volumes if it sounds so horrible?
