Works great, but far from perfect! October 30, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
i bought this for my girlfriend's 2003 honda civic for her bday! the amount that peripheral sells this for is way too much for what it is in my opinion. this unit should be maybe $50-60 retail, at the most! it also doesn't display track/album/artist name, and for $100-150, it should definitely have these features! the other negatives are that when you first hook it up, they don't provide the dip switch information you need, and you have to go online [which i did with my macbook inside the car via wireless from inside the house] to find them. the good thing is that it only takes about 5 mins to get the dip switch settings, and they seem to be correct.
the other complaint is that it seems to have issues starting up the ipod the first couple of times i tested it, almost like it had to be trained to make the adapter and the ipod work together. after that, it's been working great since, and the clarity is incredibly great! not to mention we no longer have to deal with cd's anymore, which was why i bought her this. another issue along the lines of the connection is that you must turn off the stereo power button and turn it back on whenever you get back into the car, as starting the car alone doesn't do it since it has continual power running to the ipod unit. i don't like this, but it doesn't bother my gf b/c she is one of those people that ALWAYS turns off EVERYTHING in the car - a/c, stereo, et al, before they get out.
the positives are that this unit comes with the proper harness and connection cables that you need. as well as the fact that the ipod connector cable is very long, in case you want to place the ipod somewhere other than the glovebox. the unit sits very nicely behind the radio, and you'd never know it was even there. works and sounds great - highly recommended - but could/should be much cheaper!
