all as expected and more January 9, 2009 my sennheiser's have delivered all my expectations and more. I use them with both my stereo music system and hi-def dvd viewing. They are priced appropriately for the value received. I would definitely recommend to others.
These things ROCK!! January 8, 2009 Bought these to replace my old Sony V900s. The kids tore my Sonys up. I liked them, but always wished I had bought the Sennheisers years ago. Tried the Grado SR60s. They sounded pretty good, but man were they the most uncomfortable things I ever put on. These, however, are the most comfortable earphones I have ever owned. The sound on these things is absolutely amazing! The seperation of instruments is unreal. I can hear guitar riffs that were previously hidden in the mix of other sounds. I guess this could be bad, but for me it was great. Listening to Electric Tears from Buckethead was mesmorizing. If these things actually get better as they get burned in I am in for a real treat. They are everything I have hoped for and more. They also run fine off of an ipod or stereo as well. Can't go wrong with these things!!
great headphones January 7, 2009 These headphones were purchased to be used with The Listening Program. They are very comfortable and both of my sons enjoy doing their therapy. My other kids beg to use them to listen to regular music. They are also great because you can hear other people speak while you are listening.
Worth the money. Many evil uses. December 27, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Key question with all expensive electronics products: are they worth the money? Will they last long enough to justify the price?
For the Sennheiser HD555: yes and yes. Sturdy headphones that fit extremely comfortably (mmmmm) and offer some wicked noise. Spatial renditioning is especially accurate with great balance across highs and lows.
Since the headphones are open, they do leak a lot of sound - if you have a roommate who's picky (annoying) about noise, make sure to play it extra loud so they know who's boss. Conversely, a lot of noise leaks in too, so you could easily listen in on private conversations while pretending to be listening to music. (I say all this in good humor, but I suppose it'll serve some queer fellow's dastardly designs)
These phones don't perform as well rendering bass and rock music (compared to classical and piano...wheee) but here's a trick to making them sound so much more awesome for cheap: use a y-split cable so you can blast the music you're listening to from a pair of decent speakers with a subwoofer. You'll get this totally awesome immersive feeling because the phones are so good at pinpointing sounds from a specific place. It'll be kind of like you were on the stage with the band.
*** also, do not put these headphones on a cat.
My first pair of headphones December 24, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Ok so I'm in no way an expert on headphones, but I researched them like crazy before finally choosing the hd-555's I got them mostly for movies and gaming, cause i live in an apartment and my 5.1 surround sound shakes the whole building. And I must say what a great alternative to floor speakers. I cant stop using these. When characters talk in movies, sometimes it feels like they are inside my head talking, there is really no other way to describe it, and Beethoven's 9th OMG!!!
i paid $125.00 at a shop, even though they are selling for only 90 here, but i didnt want to wait for them to arrive in the mail, and I absolutly love them
I only tested them out with one game, World at War, and while it isn't as easy to pinpoint the exact location of footsteps, bullets, and voices as my 5.1 surround sound I can still easily tell if something is happening behind, in front, or to the sides of me.
I also watched Wanted on blueray with these, and the sound was incredible, I forgot I was wearing them and kept reaching for my remote to turn the volume down at the really loud parts so I wouldn't disturb my neighbors, but alas there was no need to!
Wonderful for music, fantastic for movies, and good for gaming as well.
I do find them a tiny bit lacking on base, but who needs head thumping base when every other sound emanating from them is so rich, crisp and beautiful?
I do not regret my purchase at all
