Iomega Desktop HD October 3, 2008 This drive is all I expected from an external hard drive and more, it functions seamlessly with my computer and compared to other external hard drives I have, is "super quiet". Accessing the drive is effortless, installation was simple and straight forward. All in all a very good buy.
Did the job well!!!! September 30, 2008 You will not find a better hard drive for this very low price and by the way, McCain, Palin and the neo-cons suck big monkey dong!!!!!!!!!
Iomega great except for start up nuisance September 18, 2008 The drive has worked great since I got it over a month ago with one exception.
The computer will not boot up if the drive is turned on. So every time I need to restart the computer I must first turn the drive off. Once the startup gets past finding all the hardware IO devices I can turn it back on. It's not difficult, just a nuisance. I have an older Seagate external that is attached and does not have this issue. I've read on some forums a motherboard BIOS update may solve the problem but I have not tried that yet.
The drive is very warm to the touch. (Again for the older seagate, is not.) Guess it doesn't bother me as long as it doesn't burn up but wonder if it should be so warm.
The USB cable is really short, like maybe a foot. I have a drawer full of spares so it wasn't a big deal. Depends on where you plan on setting your drive.
On the plus side: It's very quiet, fast (don't know the transfer rate but this time it outdoes the older Seagate previously mentioned), and the price was the lowest I found for a 750gb ext. HD. I did reformat it for NTSF. No software installed on it & I can use my own preferred program for backup.
Very Easy to Use! September 17, 2008 I have had this device a little over a month. I love it. I can use it with both XP and Vista. It is very quiet. I have never used an external hard drive before and I have been using computers since 1988. Why did I wait this long? I bought the unit from a secondary seller and it was defective. I had not problem dealing with Iomega direct. They sent me a new drive right away. I just had to ship the defective one back. I highly recommend it. If you are looking for directions though, you have to go to the Iomega website.
High Quality Storage for a low price. September 5, 2008 This is a great hard drive. Cheap, tons of space and easy to use. There is nothing to setting up this drive. Take it out of the box, plug in the power supply, plug in the USB and power it up.
Quiet and stays cool after leaving it on overnight.
