Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Product Description
Joggers, snowboarders, and other outdoor enthusiasts will delight in the Sony MDR-J20 headphones, as their contoured clips follow the curve of the ears to ensure a snug fit even when bouncing around. The headphones also feature a flexible ear hanger that reduces stress on the ear, along with an open-air design that lets in ambient sound without sacrificing the quality of the music. The latter function is particularly important when skateboarding or running, as users can listen for traffic noise and other audible threats. It's the audio, however, that matters to most listeners, and the MDR-J20 headphones deliver on that count, too. Each earpiece carries a powerful neodymium magnet that provides great sound at frequencies between 18 Hz and 22 kHz. Don't give in to poorly designed, bulky headphones that slow you down while exercising. The MDR-J20s, which weigh a mere 0.35 ounces, are a perfect fit.

2 out of 5 stars Sub-standard.   July 6, 2008
I've been searching for a good pair of headphones to wear while running since the standard iPod headphones fall out of my ears. These are not worth buying if you're looking for headphones to wear while being active. I ended up taking mine back and bought theseSony Mdr-As20J Active Style Headphones with Soft Loop Hangers (Black) instead.

These are completely worthless for running. I had to adjust them about every 30 seconds because they'd shift on my ears and felt like they were falling out. About 10 minutes into my run when I started getting a little sweaty (and I don't think I sweat more than the average runner), the little inner ear bud started slipping out, which caused the whole thing to just slip off my ear. I put them back on, only to have them fall off again about 10 seconds later. I ended up just taking them off and continuing without music. Highly disappointing. Also, the cord is a little heavier than normal, which causes them to jiggle around. And, every time I picked them up, the cord was in a huge tangled mess. I really dislike these headphones.

As I mentioned, I took mine back almost immediately so I can't rate the quality, but it seems as if most people are unhappy about their durability. Overall, I wouldn't recommend these, especially for runners or other active people. For those looking for a simple pair of headphones for non-active uses, you can probably find something that costs less and is better than these. I was definitely disappointed and the Sony brand didn't live up to its name this time around.

4 out of 5 stars Good clip earphones   June 13, 2008
I those these because I have used them before, I lost my other pair, I'm good at that. Thats why I buy less expensive earphones, like this. They sound really good, but if you want you can spend about half the money buying the other Sony clip earphones that are usually blue, that have the same speakers and audio drivers. These jsut looks a little better to me. Great for someone who is on the go.

3 out of 5 stars Good sound quality, but things fall apart.   February 1, 2007
When I first bought these, I liked them very much. They sound quality for ear buds were good (better than the headphones that came with my Ipod). They stayed in my ear pretty well, even when I was exercising. The upside on the sound is that they have good bass frequency response for the price, and they are very loud (at least compared to the ipod headphones).

Their biggest problem is that they fell apart over the space of about 12 months. First the rubber clips broke off, then the wire slowly started rubbing off.

If Sony had shipped them with some kind of protective case that you could put in your pocket, they would have lasted a lot longer. Ironically, the old cheap sony earbuds I have are still in perfect working order, while these (which cost almost $30) are deteriorated past the point of uselessness.

2 out of 5 stars Not a good quality sound and not a very comfortable feet   January 3, 2007

1 out of 5 stars Sony MDR-J20 Vertical In-Ear Headphones no good   December 19, 2006

Its a shame i didn't see these reviews before buying these. The new flexible ear-hooks are too flexible and short, meaning the phones slip off the ear; the decision to join the phono lead to the left earpiece rather than traditionally via a 'U' arrangement (like a stethoscope)makes this worse on the left. And the earpieces are too weighty and large, compounding all the above. My old J10's were far better than these. Shame on you sony, for rusing these poorly designed headphones out.
