Very good value (when it works) September 8, 2008 The SanDisk Sansa Clip requires no special software to work with Windows XP or Linux and plays MP3 and -- with the 01.01.29 firmware -- Ogg Vorbis files. Sound quality is good through my Grados.
But....
I bought two 1-gb Clips, one for my son and one for my nephew. One worked. The other could be charged and could play the sample songs that came on it but would not be recognized by any of the computers that recognized the first unit. I checked SanDisk's support forum, where most posts about this problem were met with the same response: you must be doing something wrong. An e-mail to SanDisk support is still unanswered almost a month later. Amazon accepted a return of the defective unit and cross-shipped a replacement, which works.
So SanDisk gets two stars, the Sansa Clip gets four, and Amazon gets five.
Lived through a clothes washing! September 6, 2008 I've certainly enjoyed my Sansa Clip, which I've had for almost a year; nice and light... great for working out with. Nonetheless, I don't know if I would have felt the impetus to write a review until "it" happened. I felt something in the pocket of my shorts this evening and my heart sank. My shorts had been washed with my Sansa Clip in the pocket! I was sure that it was toast. I wouldn't expect any electronic item to survive that. I decided to plug it into the charger, just in case. Voila... it lives! I don't recommend washing a Sansa Clip, but I do recommend buying one. ;-)
Great little MP3 player September 4, 2008 I purchased this for my 76yr old mother, who beleive it or not uses it a lot when she works out. She also likes to listen to it when she reads. The other reason I purchased this particular player was for the FM Tuner. That way when she is riding the recumbant bike at the YMCA she can listen to Martha Stewart on the TV's there. She really loves it.
San Disk - Good Buy at Good Price September 4, 2008 The Sansa Clip is all and more than I expected it to be. Quality is good, sound is very good. A less expensive alternative to the iPod and as good or better. Does it all, songs and radio. Easy to operate but instructions could be improved.
best 1gb mp3 player for the price September 3, 2008 Great mp3 player, small enough to actually clip it anywhere you want and it won't fall out, beats the ipod shuffle by a longshot, and it even has a radio, what more could you ask for? the sound quality is great with the the standard headphones but yoi'll get even better sound with more expensive headphones, battery life is good and my computer recognized it right away.
the great thing is that it doesn't need any additional software to install or run and you can drag and drop files, or use an mp3 player manager to put songs in it (I either just drag and drop songs or use windows media player). I have no idea why people are having problems hooking this thing up to their computer, it couldn't be easier, I guess its either their fault or their computers' fault
I did a lot of research before buying a small 1gb mp3 player, and this was the bets choice, small, good battery life, good sound, it's just perfect and it works
