Nice!!! March 11, 2008 I LOVE my 640H!! I know Pioneer has had some issues with this unit but my unit has done an OUTSTANDING job!!! It is nice to be able to set this unit and walk away knowing that it is going to do its job.
Great DVR / DVD Recorder February 27, 2008 We got this a couple years ago. I started out buying a DVD recorder. I messed around with it for about a day. I learned that it recorded in dvd- format and couldn't be played on some of the dvd players in my house. I returned that dvd recorder. I bought another dvd recorder that used dvd+ format. Worked great on my dvd players, but I realized that I would be constantly changing dvds, labeling them, trying to find them etc. so, I returned that one. Finally decided to spend the extra money on the DVR/DVD recorder. I'm really glad I did. This unit has been great. Not perfect, but has plenty of recording time, nice thumbnail previews of recorded shows, Ways to sort shows by type. I've never had problems with the burned dvds. It has reasonable editing features, It's nice to be able to cut out inappropriate scenes or commercials at your descretion. Works with vcrPlus codes, which are a pain to program, but convenient once in there. Programming manually isn't even that hard once you get the hang of it. Overall Good Unit, I'd recommend it, but I'd also want to check out some of the new models coming out.
Great recorder September 29, 2007 Loved this DVR. The only thing that I don't like about it is that it doesn't have the OPEN/CLOSE button on the remote control.
My review after owning this DVD recorder for almost 2 years... September 19, 2007 A great DVD recorder. I am an electronic junkie. Pioneer DVD 640 H was my first DVD hard drive recorder and so far it is flawless in recording my favorite soap operas and burning DVDS. My first DVD recorder was a Magnavox using a DVD disc to record my shows and I found that recording directly to a disc was quite unstable and sometimes it freezes in the recorder which really upsets me. Then, I found the Pioneer 160 Gb HARD DRIVE DVD recorder in Amazon and I loved this recorder. The hard drive is stable and it doesnt freeze at all. I love the erase section editing feature of this recorder because it makes it easier for me to edit out commercials. I am a satisfied customer. So if you are just looking for a simple and dependable brand for a DVD hard drive recorder, the pioneer DVR- 640 H won't disappoint you.
Pro: dependable DVD recorder with a reasonable price and user friendly
CON: simple recorder and not for complex editings..
Great DVR September 16, 2007 This is a great DVR. We haven't had any problems, and can't find anything it is lacking.
