Amazon.com Product Description Whether you're traveling cross-country or want to show your DVDs at a friend's house across town, the Mintek MDP-1810 portable DVD player is an all-in-one, easy-to-carry entertainment solution. It plays DVDs, Video CDs (VCDs), CDs (including recordable and rewriteable CDs), MP3 discs, and Kodak Picture CDs, and features a bright, 8-inch TFT (active-matrix) color LCD display in 16:9 widescreen format. It can be connected to a television, and when connected to a compatible audio system can bring the soundtrack to life with Dolby Digital audio or DTS surround sound. Designed for easy use on the road, the MDP-1810 includes a high-capacity rechargeable lithium battery pack, a car power adapter, and an AC power adapter. Its built-in antishock system helps prevent annoying interruptions. It features both built-in stereo speakers and a headphone jack for private listening (headphones not included), as well as a wireless remote control for use across the room, such as when connected to a TV. With the unit connected to an amplifier, you can use it as a karaoke machine (with karaoke discs). It supports multiple audio language tracks and multilingual subtitles, and lets you select from multiple camera angles on DVDs that give you those options. Among its other key features are six-mode picture zoom, four-speed slow motion, fast forward and reverse search, chapter preview ("digest") mode, random play, and repeat play--a feature that's useful for tradeshows or demonstrations. The MDP-1810 gives you S-video and composite-video output, analog stereo and optical digital (S/PDIF) audio output, and a headphone jack. What's in the Box Portable DVD player, remote control, rechargeable lithium battery pack, car cigarette-lighter adapter, AC adapter, audio cable, video cable, owner's manual, and warranty card.
Product Description If you want even a bigger screen size, go with the DVD-1810's XXL 8" TFT/LCD screen. And just like the all of Mintek portables, all you have to do is plug it into the wall, charge up the battery or plug it into your car with an optional adapter to enjoy full time entertainment.

You can do better August 16, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Had I read the reviews here initially, I would have looked for another brand. I bought my first 1810 unit at Cosco and within three months, my case started breaking and Cosco readily replaced the unit. I had the other unit for a little over a year and it's no longer workimg. On both units, I would sometimes have difficulties as other reviewers have reported and I would keep trying and it would generally start to work. I thought at first the DVD discs were defective and replaced one. Then I thought it was a dirty disc and would insure the disc was clean. Then I thought it was the unit needed to be perfectly level and then I thought it was that my laser needed cleaning, so, I bought a cleaner and used it. The really frustrating aspect of the whole problem was that each solution seemed to work for a while. Even though I had to start a DVD allover again to get back to where I was when a freez-up began, or if it took 20 minutes for the unit to work, I persevered. When it finally malfunctioned enough to totally exasperate me, I emailed the Mintec company for technical suggestions and never heard from them. So, it is a hit or miss proposition as to whether you will get a dependable unit and the functional ife of the unit is highly varable and the technical support is not supportive. In short, even though some reviewers are sastisfied, for the same money, you can do better.
Disposable DVD Player - Decent quality while it lasts... January 30, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased this in August 2004 for my daughter during long plane/car trips. It worked well and went through a lot of use until it recently gave out (Jan 2006). Although I don't consider that necessarily good quality, if you get a good deal and buy it from a store (such as CostCo) which has a liberal return policy you can probably end up with a decent player that will last you 1-3 years or so, even if you have to return one if it fails during the initial burn-in period.
Can you say "JUNK"? January 21, 2006 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
If anyone provided a review for this item right after playing it the first time, they would have written a glowing review. So would I. But I have only used it ONE time for a plane trip. When I just took it out of the case for the second time, the thing will not play. When you insert a disc, it just makes this awful noise and then says "no disc found". Regardless of what dvd is inserted, the machine does not work. It was used not more than 6 hours tops. What a piece of trash it is.
Has worked great for over a year December 28, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I don't know what happened with some of the other reviewers, but my Mintek MDP-1810 has worked great for well over a year and through 2 young children. We have taken it overseas, on flights, used at home during power outages and it is still going strong. Great picture quality and a tough little machine.
Don't buy it! January 25, 2005 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought this dvd player for my husband. It didn't seem to work at first the screen was always black. After that problem got fixed it froze in the middle of moovies. On rare occasions it works through out a moovie but most of the time freezes or the screen goes black. I would not recommend this to anyone.
