From the Manufacturer Enjoy highest-quality images that are free from annoying blank spots on the LCD screen. LCD displays commonly have imperfections, termed as 'bright dots' by the LCD industry. A limited number of bright dots were once considered an inevitable side effect of LCD mass production. With Philips' strict quality control procedures used in our Portable DVD Players, our LCD displays are produced with zero tolerance for bright dots. Select Portable DVD Players come with Philips Zero Bright Dot Policy to guarantee optimal screen quality. With DivX support, you are able to enjoy DivX encoded videos in the comfort of your living room. The DivX media format is an MPEG4-based video compression technology that enables you to save large files like movies, trailers and music videos on media like CD-R/RW, memory cards and DVD-video. DivX CDs can be played back on selected DVD players, DVD Recorders and Home Theater Systems. Other standard features include: - Built-in quality stereo speakers.
- Share entertainment fun with dual headphone jacks.
- Car adaptor and slim remote control.
- Contemporary precision design with piano-white top cover.

perfect for portability and kids May 22, 2008 we bought this dvd player for our baby while he was hospitalized. we have had no problems with it. works great. while other reviewers complain about resolution, initial start-up noise, etc, we have no complaints. since the player was purchased with children in mind, these are no issues to us. i personally don't find the start-up noise that loud. the same as any other dvd player starting. my 16yr old (high-tech teen) thinks the resolution is fine. of course it's not HD, but perfect for excellent quality video viewing. we are extremely happy with this player. it is well built. we would buy another in a heartbeat if needed!! buy with confidence that your getting a great player.
Best DVD player for the money September 4, 2007 I did a lot of research before making this purchase. For the money, this is the best! I bought mine on sale for just over $100. It is very sturdy, and nice looking. More importantly, the screen image is sharp and clear. It also has very loud speakers- a feature that many other DVD players in higher price ranges don't. I wanted something with a longer battery life, but to get more than 4 hours, it is very pricey. This one tested out at 3.75 hours. The recharge time is somewhere around 5 hours. I have found that the battery life has been more than I've needed for my toddler on plane trips. I was concerned about the screen size (bigger is better, right?) but really, since my toddler is watching it at less than 3 feet, its great. This is a very user friendly device. Easy to start right away, and easy to plug into a tv to watch videos. This is great when we are staying at hotels. I also bought a pair of califone headphones (about $12), which my toddler LOVES. I would highly recommend these for parents traveling with children.
I have no complaints, I have used this in the car, in the air, and at home. There is a somewhat "loud" whirring upon startup, but really not enough to worry over. I would recommend this to family and friends!
Philips PET724 not working August 20, 2007 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
It is very sad to see that after just three and four usage of the DVD player. It has stopped working. I have charged the battery but nothing is comming on the screen. It is dead. I have gone through all the manual and nothing is mentioned there also
I have been dupped.
Portable DVD - Philips PET724 7" May 16, 2007 This is the first portable DVD player I've owned or used. Have enjoyed its use. However, I find that the sound quality isn't great; in particular the volume at its maximum isn't terribly loud. Soft dialogue is sometimes hard to hear. Would recommend ear phones.
Does What it says on the box May 15, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Well priced product with good spec. No reliability problems, looks good and works well. I bought the US version whilst on a trip to New York, saving 50% of the UK price and the spec is better than the UK version (which doesnt play DivX althought the Euro one does) It is easy to make it region free ( do an online search for a crack) and it is switchable PAL / NTSC so I can play any disc on it and also hook it up to most TVs.
Sound is good with headphones and fairly loud from the speakers if a bit tinny.
Very portable, and handy to have in the car when the blackwall tunnel closes and you can't get home.
