This has to be the worst consumer scam ever. You can search online to see how many people have or have had the "no disc" error problem with many Polaroid dvd player units. They should be prevented from selling sub-standard products to the public until they clean up their act. This is my second and LAST Polaroid dvd player. I bought the same unit but in a swivel-head incarnation prior to this purchase. It too died an early death. I purchased this unit because Polaroid was a trusted name in my family for many years. That is not so today. For these many people to be having the same issue and for Polaroid to only put a 90-day warranty on the product speaks volumes. I for one am DONE. Caveat Emptor.

I don't care what these guys used (or sold!), these players are crap.
Not just one, but two of these Polaroid portable DVD players were purchased less than a year ago. Both quit spinning the DVD in the 13th month within a few days of each other. What do you do with a working LCD screen and no player? Nothing. It's crap. Don't buy Polaroid!!!
Oh, and I call BS on the care and handling on the 5 star recommendation. Baloney! The last one to quit had just played a DVD. Popped out that one and put in another one and it just wouldn't play. Happened that quick. Disc won't spin. So, trying to explain away the player not working due to abuse is pure horse crap.
Many problems July 5, 2008
We bought this DVD player over a year ago after our other portable Polaroid broke (it fell off the bed and the little stub that plugs it in inside of it broke). I did like that it had the non-slide surface, and thought since WE had technically broken the other one we would buy that brand again. I was so very wrong in that choice. Here are our problems...
1. The fast forward button jumps about 3 minutes each time you push it, you can't really fast forward to the next frame.
2. The open and close button started not closing all of the way about 2 months after we got it, we have to secure it with a piece of tape.
3. The picture quality is not that great.
4. Some times you have to turn it off and on several times before you can get to the main menu, it seems to get stuck somewhere on the loading page.
5. Now the battery will not charge at all in the car and if you charge it in the house, it only holds for about 30 minutes. And it looks like it will be cheaper to buy a new one than replace the battery.
Since this is the second Polaroid we have had a problem with, we will probably buy another brand.

This is a great little DVD player! I haven't had any of the problems mentioned by the others. The screen is nice and clear and it is very easy to work. It's also nice and light for traveling. I am very happy with the purchase. It's a great color of red too!

Polaroid 7" Portable DVD Player - Red (PDX-0073C)

We've used (and sold) these units ourselves for over a year now, and we've had none of the problems that the other TWO reviewers have stated here.
What I like about the Polaroid PDX-0073 Portable DVD Players, is that they are much lighter and more compact than any of the other portable DVD players that we have used, tested and/or sold, in this class.
And they have a very attractive casing and a beautiful red, non-slip outer shell, (if that's important.) I think its important because many times, these units are held on the user's lap, and so the non-slip surface, helps prevent them from slipping off, and being dropped!
These electronics, like most electronics will normally hold up extremely well, if they are not abused!
But we see so many times in our business, with portable electronics devices like these, that they are dropped (by children and sometimes adults) or handled so roughly, that granted, over a period of time, they probably will eventually fail with this type of treatment.
But generally speaking, if you handle these units (like most portable electronics) without EXCESSIVE abuse, shaking or dropping them a few times, they will most likely work for you for a very long time.
And having been in the electronics business for over twenty years, I can tell you first hand, that this is true of almost all modern day electronic items being manufactured and sold today.
Generally speaking, the vast majority of electronics built today are normally EXTREMELY RELIABLE, but for the very few that do fail unexpectedly, its usually because of the way PEOPLE (or kids) handle them, and usually not because the product just simply stopped working!
Generally speaking, that's an extreme rarity with today's modern electronics.
Of course there's always going to be exceptions to this, and nothing is always perfect, and static electrical discharges are known, on very rare occasions,to cause electronics to failure but generally speaking, most electronics manufactured today are EXTREMELY reliable, and should last the consumer for an extended product life.
