Amazon.com Product Description The WM-FS497 Sports Walkman from Sony has a heavy-duty aluminum die-cast design to protect the Walkman from extreme conditions. It's water-resistant, and has a built-in clock/stopwatch so you can time yourself during sports activities. The digital synthesized AM/FM stereo tuner allows up to 20 preset stations: 15 FM and 5 AM. It has a local/DX switch to either gather the strongest signals only, or bring in weaker signals more clearly. The cassette player has auto reverse, auto shutoff, and an anti-roll mechanism to prevent shocks when you're moving. The mega bass has a "groove sound" position, for an even heavier sound. The Walkman is also metal tape compatible, and has an auto volume-limiting system to prevent hearing damage. The WM-FS497 Sports Walkman plays for up to 22 hours on one set of batteries on tape mode. This portable cassette player includes sports stereo headphones.

Sony cassette AM/FM WALKMAN September 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Ear/Head phones are good. Cassette door is easy to open and load cassette. Sound is good.
Good for the money August 27, 2008 So far I love it! Works great and I did not have it eat any of my tapes so far! Wish the price was a little cheaper though.
Audiophile Sound + Powerful Built-In Amp July 11, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I've owned several different cassette walkmans over the years, including some vintage units from Panasonic until I stumbled upon this unit.
Best feature for me is that this unit features a powerful built-in amplifier. This walkman can easily power my Sennheiser HD-650's and or AKG 701's with relative ease; that is, you don't have to use a portable headphone amplifier.
It plays Metal and CR as well as normal tapes and provides a portable as well as inexpensive means to enjoy vinyl LP music on the go.
Built-in bass boost features are another plus as you can set to bass to your tastes.
The continuous waveform recording analog tape provides is still superior to compressed digital. Analog rules!

These are the last of the really good portable cassette players. The new models are all crappy.
A Great Purhase! May 19, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I love this walkman. It's sturdy, has great sound, and the extra bass can knock you over! The earphones are the MOST comfortable I have ever worn. It has a clock, timer, and AM/FM, and automatic reverse on tapes so I don't have to stop and flip the tape while working out at the gym. I am very happy with this purchase and highly recommend it to others.
