The Philips AT9500 is a great basic CD player with rich sound and extended, 45-second skip protection. It's perfect for listening, studying, and exercising. It offers shuffle and repeat modes and its heat-resistant body lets you use this CD player anywhere--at the beach, pool, or simply outside on your deck using the supplied NiMH rechargeable battery. Electronic Skip Protection (ESP) automatically stores digital music information during play (using a 45-second buffer) and inserts it in place of lost information when the CD player is bumped or shaken, preventing interruptions caused by shocks and vibration. Playback options include 30-track programming, resume (a bookmark function that picks up playback where you last stopped), repeat (track or disc), and random play. A hold switch prevents unintended interruptions in playback and saves batteries by negating playback when the player is stopped. Auto power off kicks in one minute after playback has ended, an additional battery-saving convenience. The onboard one-bit digital-to-analog converter renders digital audio as smoothly and accurately as possible. The player runs for approximately 25 hours on two standard AA batteries (not supplied) or 11 hours on the built-in rechargeable by itself. What's in the Box

High quality portable CD player with very convenient battery location and great skip protection. I take it on walks and it does not skip.

I like this cd player. It has played my most scratched cds. It keeps your place if you switch to radio or turn off. Mine comes with rechargeable batteries.

I found the hold switch to be very useful.. it prevents the player from turning on (or shutting off) accidently when it travels in your backpack. Very pleased overall.

OK, it sounds very nice! But why did Amazon say there was a "built in" rechargeable battery (some reviewers said so, too). I think that Amazon was reporting on a different model, maybe the AZT9505 instead of AZT9500. This model only has battery compartment, necessitating separate batteries (rechargeable or otherwise, alkaline or other). All in all, features are swell and I'm %500 better off having ditched my cassette player. I really appreciate the power-saver mode, too.

Ordered a cheap memorex mp3-cd player which broke, then ordered this one and have had no problems! The FM tuner is great because if their is a lot of static or interference, you can switch it to MONO mode which cuts back on the interference and keeps some sound quality. Even though it doesn't have MP3 support I would still recommend it. A+.
