Amazon.com Product Description Audiovox's affordable D1730 features a broad, seven-inch widescreen (16:9 aspect ratio) LCD, and compatibility with DVD-Video, VCD/SVCD, audio CD, CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3-encoded discs. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's coaxial digital-audio output for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. Composite-video and stereo analog-audio inputs and outputs let you hook up additional AV gear for viewing through the D1730. All audio and video inputs and outputs are of the minijack .125-inch size, so compatible adapter cables are required (one stereo analog audio and one composite-video cable are supplied) S-video and composite-video outputs simplify hookup with a home TV. If you don't have a surround receiver or six-channel speaker setup, you can still make every movie night the ultimate experience: Q-Surround Sound simulates surround sound through two speakers or headphones. Playback options include frame-by -frame slow motion, zoom (image magnification and reduction), multiple angle viewing (with applicable discs), and 20-track programmable sequencing. The D1730 comes with an AC adapter and a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that provides up to three hours of playback (power consumption depends on the operations of the player, such as screen brightness, volume level, etc). Other supplied accessories include a user's manual and a remote control. Headphones are not included.

Amazing DVD Player October 20, 2005 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I find this Ultra Slim DVD player amazing. Its picture quality is very good. The speakers are also good. I won't say that the speakers are too good. I have a pair of Bose speakers which I connect to this DVD Player and then watch movies. I feel like I am watching a movie in a big theater.
Ok but..... August 19, 2005 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
This is an okay player, especially at this lower price. Just be aware that our battery lasted only 1.5 years before it would not hold a charge and over time, the unit makes a grinding noise. A replacement battery costs about $75.00+ from Audiovox and to have the unit cleaned/repaired would cost about $95.00. At that point, it's cheaper to just buy a new unit.
At home ok, in car not so good February 11, 2005 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
I bought this item over a less expensive "off-brand" thinking it would have better performance in the car. It worked great at home and my kids had a blast snuggling up and watching their favorite DVDs. In the car it was less than desirable. Two seperate units (which I've returned) had the exact same problem: the power jack connection at the unit is loose and the power flashes on & off if the unit is moved even the slightest. A big problem in a moving vehicle, especially with the coiled power cord.
good for a year January 15, 2005 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
We had our player for just over a year when ours broke. Before that, it was a good machine. The picture quality on the 7" screen was clear and pretty sharp. Plugged into a TV it looked great as well. The 2 speakers on the bottom front of the screen worked fine. We never had problems hearing the sound, even when the kids were watching a movie during a noisy wedding reception. The sound quality was very good when it was pluged into headphones or a sound system. The player had no problem playing DVD's from other regions & burned copies of home videos. The remote is a standard design used by several of the other less expensive brands ie. Magnavox. Good features on a small remote & ergonomically designed. The problems we had was after about 8 months of heavy use (we used it in our bedroom as an alternate dvd player for several months) it started having trouble recognizing & loading dvd's. Once in a while there would be intermitant scraping noises as if the dvd were being scraped up. After a couple more uses, the screen no longer worked and the scraping noise was persistant.
We bought the player from Costco and this will be the test of their return policy.
