Amazon.com Product Description This modern clock radio is a step above the clock radios of the past. For starters, the radio updates its time automatically from the U.S. atomic clock in Boulder, Colorado. While this may force you to work or school on time, the benefits of a constantly updated timepiece are critical in this fast-paced world. The radio even adjusts itself automatically for daylight saving time. The illuminated LCD screen gives you vital information, including: time, date, day of week, sleep, wake times, naptime, and radio information. With the gentle wake option, you can choose for the radio's volume to start low and slowly build over time. The AM/FM radio has fourteen presets for individual programming. The clock radio also features an automatic preset system which scans and memorizes available radio stations. With the two alarms you can set wake-up times on the same or different days of the week. The sleep timer is a nice feature for those who use the radio as a sleep aid. There is a headphone jack for people who want to listen to the radio without bugging the person besides them. The clock radio's color is silver and its styling is modern and sleek. What's in the Box Clock radio and user's manual.

Good but could be better August 17, 2008 The radio plays well. It also was easy to set up. The angle to view the time display has to be "dead on" with the face of the clock. Any other angle and the display washes out. Also you can not turn off the alarm if you chose to,without resetting it. Mike
Thanks, Sangean June 18, 2008 My husband and I had several requirements to replace our 12 year old Panasonic alarm -- dual alarms, no CD or tape player, AM/FM radio with pre-set buttons, etc. This alarm clock filled all of the requirements, and we are pretty pleased with it. I was dubious about the orange display, but I actually like it a lot better than our old green one. The sound quality is pretty good, and it is smaller than I imagined it would be. My three complaints about this product: 1. The user manual was not very intuitive -- it was all pictures instead of descriptions, which I'd rather not pore over teeny labels to figure out what button is the snooze button 2. The snooze button is sort of small and weirdly placed 3. The atomic clock doesn't seem to get reception where I am -- an urban area Otherwise, we really like this clock, and I would buy it again. It cost slightly more than I'd anticipated paying, but I think that it was worth the extra money.
RCR-2 or RCR-22 February 26, 2008 2008-06-09 WARNING: my RCR-2 LOST all of it's radio pre-sets during the recent power outage.
the whole idea behind the radio control clock is that the receiver operates normally after a power outage. losing the pre-sets in this manner is a great disapointment.
this means the loss of another star: rate this item 3-stars now, not 4. one is for the lack of a sensor for ambient light for the LCD display, now another for the loss of the radio pre-sets during the power outage.
~~2008-02-25~~ The atomic clock on my RCR-2 synched almost immediately when I powered up the receiver.
The receiver turned out excellent: it would select and pull in any station I wanted -- even getting a nice clear signal on distant/weak ones.
The LCD was "OK", but too bright to leave on all the time. Easy fix, I just leave it off unless I want to read it.
As far as a lack of battery backup goes, yep, that's a problem in my area. But if we have a power outage it's gonna be at least 4 hours in our area. For that reason I have always used a battery powered alarm clock and not relied on an A/C power device as an alarm.
Wish I had read the review on the RCR-22 before I bought the RCR-2 as the display on the RCR-22 sounds to be much better design. Oh well, the RCR-2 will be fine.
Good Alarm Radio Clock with Time-Keeping February 20, 2008 Here are some features I find which should have been included in the manual. These are nice features.
1) Time and alarm settings are kept for ten minutes after a power failure. The backlight is off immediately and the display starts to flash after 20 seconds. But the time keeps ticking for the ten minutes.
2) Alarm settings are rememberd after ten minutes of a power failure. I unplug the power cord for three and half hours and plug it back in. The time is three and half hours late. But it starts to search for the radio signal. Since I live in New Jersey, the signal is not strong during the day. The system continues to check for signal every hour on the hour in its time, now three and half hours late. Once the night comes, it finds the signal and adjusts the time accordingly.
The procedure to set the alarms is not quite clear in the manual. It really takes some trial and error to understand what the manual says.
love it January 5, 2008 I've had this for a few days now and very pleased. First, yes the display is LCD and you need to be close to read it, or have the light on and be fairly straight on. I have it on a bed stand just about at eye level and have no issues with it. With the light off at night it is pitch black (good) but I can easily turn it on if looking for the time. Best feature is outstanding Sangean reception including FM antenna, automatic time set, and headphone jack (so I can listen to the radio while wife sleeps). Wish list: aux input for mp3 player.
