Don't buy this. February 16, 2008 To anyone thinking of buying this as a gift for a teenager/young adult- DO NOT BUY. Myself an three of my friends have receive this as a gift, and it is not a good one. Unless you plug it in via the headphone jack to a good stereo or computer speakers, the sound for the record player is awful. No bass, tinny sound. The turntable is automatic, meaning it picks up at the "end" of a record and brings the stylus back "home", but it picks it up before all of my 7" (45) records are done playing. It has a cheap needle that literally skips around the record- it leaves little marks on the vinyl and makes listening to records a chore and unenjoyable.
This might be okay for someone who just wants to take a trip down memory lane with some of their old vinyl, but it is not a good purchase for someone who wants to listen to new records which have good sound quality. Thanks for nothing, Emerson.
Great Lil stereo to play my records January 6, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love this it plays my cds, records.cassettes, and a bonus am/fm tuner as well.I have been using it to transfer all my records to my pc .It works great just plug in the headphone line to your sound card, some software I found on download. I get all my songs I missed in MP#3 format. I Love it.I think for the price it sounds just fine all around records, tapes ect.If you want to listen to or upload music this is the biggest bang for your buck and you can edit how the music sounds on the pc. I tried a few of them and this one was the keeper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)
Timeless technology December 28, 2007 I was pleased to receive the "Emerson NR303TT Heritage Series 4-in-1 Home Music System" recently, which now compliments The Noctuary splendidly. The antique smooth wooden finish design with all the modern features as well, being both aesthetically and technologically pleasing is a wonderful combination. It almost seems like these retro-innovations were made with the discerning artistic enthusiast in mind. In today's disposable society, where in many cases the herd's "past" is our present, from rare collectibles, to scouring antique shops for rare treasures, furniture, and objects d'art, this combines the best of both worlds in one.
Record turntable
I do have a penchant to collect rare vinyl, for the artistic, evocative, and arcane sonic value. Considering I also have preserved much of My first purchases, this will be quite interesting, much better than the rather bland current models. Plus, the liftable top also provides for a nice pedistal for a bust or statuette.
Cassette Player
Located on the side, with which to listen to My extensive collection of tapes, some of which have been incrementally collected on CD as well, but much of which are both irreplaceable and contain sentimental value as well.
AM/FM features
Tuning knobs with spindle pointing to station numbers, the yellowish light, provide for a particularly evocative experience, even with that certain whistling sound while changing between stations. At times, it almost seems as if one is receiving stations from the golden era of radio.
CD player
The black planchette is contained behind a decorative silver finish design and is completely unobtrusive for one's total environment theme.
There is no denying the time travel dynamic which occurs when using this entertainment system, as well as others in the line, wherein one feels as if transported and preserved into the misty corridors of one's timeless preference. These types of 'retro-designs' have been available for a few years now, and in My opinion, it behooves the cultural anthropologist to take advantage of their recreation.
A lemon October 18, 2006 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
The turntable sounds tinny. The CD player worked great for the first day, then the "Open" button wouldn't work on the second day. Returned it to the store the third day.
They don't make them like they used to - they just make them look like they make them like they used to.
Come to think of it, I've bought a number of Emerson products over the years, and I've regretted every purchase but one. No more for me thanks.
Affordable & decent September 30, 2006 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
This little unit is a nice find. The radio and cd play nicely and the sound is good. I have yet to play a tape in my unit. The record player sound isn't quite clear and sharp but at least it plays my records which I have been purchasing on Ebay. Previous reviewer ELENDEREL sums it up pretty well, "I put on a record - sound quality plummeted! At that point it sounded like distant music broadcast from a tin can." Oh my God, I am still laughing because its somewhat true. But didn't all record players sound like that? I have an IPOD and a speaker system hooked up but I wanted this little unit to remind me when I was a kid and jamming to my 'Funkytown' & 'Girls Just wanna have fun' records. My only complaint is, (and I have yet to call Emerson to ask them) is that it cuts off a few songs before they are done like my Stevie Wonder 45, "I just Called to Say I love You." That 45 is over 4 minutes long so I don't know if that is the case when the needle comes up and returns to its stand. On a shorter song it played the whole tune. I pd 89.99 and got 10% off with a coupon so I think and hope it was a good deal. The records I guess do sound like it was coming from a tin can but I was a kid so I don't remember how great the quality was back then and I doubt I had a high quality system even then. Hope this helps.
