Product Description It seems appropriate that the manufacturer celebrated for the creation of the Walkman(R) finally added a feature that had been ominously missing from MP3 players. The NW-S205F adds a pedometer that lets you track your walking, jogging, and running distance - while you enjoy listening to MP3 and ATRAC tunes. It also has an integrated FM radio tuner. Designed for the active user, the NW-S205F sports a new design that fits comfortably around your neck or in a pocket along with a control that's easy to use when moving or not. Along with the pedometer, Sony includes sportswatch functions as well. With 2GB of Flash memory, this digital media player is a serious asset to your fun workouts. The Walkman(R) isn't gone. It has evolved to meet the needs of today for a better tomorrow. Transfer files and charge unit through convenient use of a USB port Takes just three minutes to charge up the batteries for up to 3 hours of playback or up to 18 hours of battery life on a full charge 1-Line multifunction OLED screen Comes with SonicStage music file management softwareand earphones
Amazon.com Product Description Designed with an active lifestyle in mind, the Sony NW-S205F is the perfect companion for your workouts, ski trips, or commutes. The unique, cylindrically shaped MP3 player is packed with a host of valuable features, including a calorie counter that tracks the calories you've burned based on your weight and length of workout, a stopwatch that lets you track your speed, and a pedometer. Listeners who need a little extra motivation while exercising will love the Music Pacer, which switches playlists based on their pace. If you're walking, it chooses a relatively slow playlist, while hard- charging runners will receive a much more up-tempo soundtrack (the feature can be disabled at any time). And when you're finished with the workout, the music will automatically stop once the target time has passed. The NW-S205F isn't just a workout warrior, however, as it boasts 2 GB of built-in flash memory that stores up to 1,350 songs. Listeners who already have extensive music libraries can use the included software and hardware to play back their collection of MP3s, while newer listeners will find plenty to like in Sony's ATRAC format, which provides higher sound quality while taking up less space on the flash memory. In addition, the NW-S205F supports the playback of WMA and AAC (non-DRM) audio files, a great feature if you have a large catalog of audio on your PC that was ripped from personal CDs. Navigation is straightforward thanks to the player's one-line OLED display, which shows the song title, album title, and artist name along with information about the settings, time, and date. The built-in FM tuner, meanwhile, delivers accurate, drift-free tuning of all your favorite FM stations, with 30 station presets making it a breeze to quickly switch from one favorite to another. And when it comes time to transfer data from your PC to the NW-S205F, simply connect the unit to your computer's USB 2.0 port to enjoy a high-speed transfer rate. The NW-S205F comes with a copy of Sony's SonicStage music management software, which lets listeners manage their music, create playlists, burn CDs, import digital files, and easily transfer songs from one location to another. It's also a breeze to customize the sound, with a five-band equalizer that includes heavy, pop, jazz, custom, and manual modes. Additional features include a seamless, water-resistant aluminum body; a Shuffle Shake mode that activates the shuffle function with three quick shakes (great when jogging); a skip-proof design (the MP3 player has no moving parts); a quick battery charge function that delivers up to three hours of playback with just a three-minute charge; and compatibility with Sony's Connect Music store. The NW-S205F, which provides up to 18 hours of continuous playback per full charge, measures 3.79 by 0.78 by 0.59 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a 90-day warranty on labor and a one-year warranty on parts. What's in the Box NW-S205F MP3 player, headphones, SonicStage CP software CD-ROM, armband, USB cable, quick-start guide.

Perfect for running August 13, 2008 I got this mp3 player for my husband who runs 4 times a week and has already broken 3 other mp3 players. So far he really likes it, it's easy to use and the pedometer function is great for seeing how far you've been. The software wasn't so bad because he had to reload all his music anyway. I can see it would be difficult if you were trying to move from another library. The only problem is the battery keeps running down all the time even when he's not using it. You can't turn it off and something keeps running so you should always check it a little while before you want to use it. Of course it does charge fast but still an off button would have been a good idea.
Proprietary software is aweful July 4, 2008 Sony uses proprietary software (ATRAC) to transfer files and play music from the device. Their connect store is now offline as of 3/31/08 and only offer limited support. I could not get passed the "unauthorized transfer" error using their software or Windows Media Player. With WMP it says the files are there but the device will not play them. I would not buy this device!!!!!
Simply AweeeF######ingSomeeee....!!!!! July 3, 2008 Well to be honest I was a bit skeptical about buying this product, because of the software problems which has been Sony's Propriety.. :)
But I thought of giving it a try and it performs simply like a Mastero.
Pro's - Super Clarity - Avid control of Base response - Superb Base Response - The Pedometer works great - Unique Design and Styling.. Looks Kwel - Light-Weight - Controls are easy to control
Cons - Software Issues - Learning Curve
I have this player for the past two days and I simply love it. I agree on the point that the software is a bit buggy but i found the solution online in 5 mins and I was good to go. It takes a day or two to get used to its control but they are.
The Sound quality is superb. Beats a IPOD hands-down. Superior Sony Style and Quality. Just put your songs to the software and it adds to your playes. Sweet..!!!
Haven't tried creating playlists.
Battery life's good. Took 2 hours daily to workout and had to recharge it after a week. Quick charge 3mins for 45 mins of play works as quoted.
Overall an excellent play but I wonder why it only comes in small memory space.
My opinion that if you can put 10 mins you can handle it like a baby.
Fun player, terrible software June 12, 2008 The player delivers in terms of shape, weight and user-friendliness, but you have to use the Sonic Stage software that it comes with (no easy sync-up with Windows Media Player, or click and drag files). The Sonic Stage software is not intuitive and a real pain in the neck--everything takes longer.
On the plus side, the player is fun to go running with. The headphones it comes with have a pretty good sound, and I've already been complimented on the look of the thing.
batterlife is not all that June 4, 2008 Very good product the battery life is not all that I thought it would be and it only holds about 300 songs not the 1200 it says
