Sounds great, but too many other drawbacks July 31, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The sound of these headphones is great. I have to grant them that. The sound is incredibly clear and I've noticed some things in my music that I wasn't able to before as a result.
However, I would not recommend gunmetal black for one specific reason. The cord is made of a rubber material and it catches, yanks, and holds on to _everything_. As a result, the cord on the headphones wore out a lot quicker than they would have if it were a simple plastic that wasn't as tacky (in texture).
Further, their customer service is glacially slow and they've worn my patience out. 16 business days (2008-08-09 to 2007-08-30) to open an envelope, verify a defective item, grab a replacement and pop it in the mail? I hope they don't sprain anything. On top of that, they stated "tracking is not currently provided by USPS". Oh really? It sure was when I sent it to them... insurance too.
I was highly tempted to buy the vibe duo to control my iphone, but not now.
If you aren't thwarted by my review, I'd suggest getting one of the colored versions, as their cords seem to be wrapped with a woven metal. As long as it doesn't fray, it won't catch and yank on nearly as much stuff as the rubber cord.
Greatest buds I have used July 12, 2008 These are without a doubt a great value and sharp looking too. Bass is fabulous, I don't have to use bass boost on my Ipod Touch. I use them at a very reduced volume and find I miss nothing in the way of sound reproduction.
Not quite what I had expected. June 4, 2008 I was eyeing these buds eversince they showed up on the shelves of Cos***. They recently had a coupon sale and offered $10 off which I thought was good enough although shelling out $69 for earbuds still seemed high for me, but I thought "ehhh these are probably very good ones".
As a semi-pro musician on the side, I am very particular in sound quality and have access to studio quality equipment. I must admit that I was very impressed with the appearance and total packaging of the vmoda. My wife saw them and immediately wanted one for herself. I read somewhere that you have to break-in the buds and let it play for atleast a week to get the sound right which I did... I set my mp3 player at a comfortable listening level and left it alone playing thru the buds. After about 30 hours of continuous playing, I picked it up, filled with excitement and started to try enjoying them. This is when I noticed that no matter what I did, the bass although powerful, sounded muddy, boomy and kinda drowned out the rest of the ranges. I tried adjusting the sound setting on my mp3 player and even messed with the equalizer setting to no avail... and yes this is a high end mp3 player with quality mp3 files the lowest quality files ripped at 192kbps. My wife's ipod earphones although lacking the bass sounded better than the vmoda. I just couldn't get the mid and high range I mean I could hear them but it was like I was listening from outside of someone elses car like one reviewer mentioned. This even when I had turned off all the bass options on the mp3 player.
Anyway, I was going to continue hoping that it gets better during the "break-in" period (which I thought I had done already) but then I got an email from Cos*** which had a link to another vmoda lookalike that they were having a special on (the lenntek sonix). So I ordered those and returned the vmoda. I couldn't have made a better decision! Read my other review on the Sonix. You too might like that a lot better not to mention they cost less than half!
Warning: there are multiple versions of the Vibe headphone! June 1, 2008 When I first bought the Vibe, I was very unimpressed and didn't understand why it got favorable professional reviews. Checking on the web, I found that the initial batch of Vibes in 2004 (?) were good, then the 2005-2006 (approx.) were not nearly as good and the models available from 2007 got better. I have now both the 2005 and 2007 versions and the latter is significantly better than the 2005.
Now, I'm not nick picking here and am not an audiophile (my entire stereo system is <$500) but there truly is a world of difference. You can tell the versions by the plug - the earlier ones were smooth and the later ones have "teeth" - you can also look at the "first offered at Amazon" date in the description.
4 stars for the 2007, 2 stars for the earlier.
Defective, and Out of Pocket Return Shipping April 26, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I don't know how to explain my disappointment with this product, I read good reviews and expected that I would be receiving a quality product, I got less then I bargained for.
My initial reaction was to how comfortable they sit in my ears, and to how stylish they look, definitely an incredible job in this department. The sound quality on the other hand, was nothing sort of disastrous. The bass sounds extremely muffled, and overdone. The midrange and highs might as well not exist, and this was after a burn in. To make it worse, a few hours ago I noticed a crackling sound coming out of the right bud, prevalent on multiple devices, I could only conclude it was a defect.
Not only was the sound extremely underwhelming, but these buds broke after only a few hours of use, they never even left my desk. To make it worse, V-Moda want me to pay for shipping costs to return their defective product. Not impressed.
