Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
BeoSound 1 sets new standards for portable music systems. Instead of starting with the sources (CD and radio), the design team began with the sound quality. The result is a movable loudspeaker with an exceptionally dynamic sound - powerful enough to fill a room. The BeoSound 1 concept is about simplicity and its operation underlines this - just plug it in and BeoSound 1 is ready. All the functions are arranged on a single line and in an order that's easy to understand and simple to use.

2 out of 5 stars Bose is better for the money.   April 28, 2008

I own both this and the Wave Radio. For the money the Bose is a much better deal. This is nearly 3 times the money. Is it three times as good? No.

I must say that I have never heard of B&O until I received this unit from my father-in-law as a hand-me-down gift. He got himself a Bose wave radio and has been using that instead. I am actually appalled that he chose the Bose over this (but he is not very mechanically inclined and only cares for simplicity over function).

As for the style, I must say it is almost a work of art. It is beautifully poised over my flat-screen TV on its wall-mount, seeming as an extention of it. The antenna ("aerial"), extends in and out of the unit with the push of a button. The aluminum grill also acts as an antenna, boosting the radio signal.

As for its sound, the best way to put it is "well-balanced." This unit has 2 tweeters, 2 midranges, and one woofer built into it, all with their own power amplifiers. Nearly anything you throw at it will be reproduced in excellent quality and fidelity. And don't let its size fool you - its sound can fill a house!

If you want to hook it up to an external source (TV, DVD, mp3 player, etc.), make sure to order the special plug from B&O. They have a proprietary AUX input.

All I must say is that I have never heard anything to match this piece of equipment. In its styling and its function, it is unparalleled. Listen for yourself at one of the NYC-area stores.
