3 out of 5 stars It could be improved upon   August 1, 2008

I mostly read audio library books. Of the things that I use on the unit:
The pros:
- There are 3 file folders in case you listen to books or wish to separate your music mixes plus the main music file and it's easy to switch between them.
- Adding content to the unit is as easy as plugging the unit into the port on your computer then drag and drop.
- This unit holds a good number of books/music and if you pause and don't get back to it before it shuts down it starts right back where you left off. Same if you turn it off in the middle of your song. It doesn't hold it's place if the battery dies. This generally is most excellent.
- The AAA battery lasts a long time and it is easily seen how much battery time is left on the console. This is great ~ the convenience of carrying a single AAA battery just incase the battery doesn't last all day (it usually does and then some) is SO easy compared to plugging in ~ wish my cell phone was so easy.
- It is very easy to rewind or fast forward just a small bit within the song or chapter. This is brilliant.
- I've had problems with other units that have had buttons inconveniently placed but while I've paused this accidentally (due to having no good holder) while it's been in my pocket, I haven't inadvertently done anything really annoying on a regular basis with the buttons.

The cons:
- There is a significant number of people at the Creative site service fac discussion who complain about problems trying to get legally acquired content onto their unit or using it once it is there ~ the techs ignore them. I didn't bother adding to them when songs that played fine on my Zen unit suddenly became disfunctional both on my computer and on my Muvo after installing the Muvo software. Undoubtedly they are messing with the music security codes. So much for "Plays for Sure". I could have spit nails and cursed Creative for this. I have had this unit for about a year and I still haven't fully recovered my software protection settings so I can listen to all my music.
- In the beginning I loaded up a bunch of music and some books. I had to remove the music library. I have had problems with the drag and drop method of adding content (the syncing method suggested by Creative that comes with their software) and have had to use Windows Media to get dropped chapters/songs (I get errors disallowing the transfer) from books onto my unit. I get many fewer errors if all/most media is removed before a new big upload is put onto the unit. Another problem that the Creative techs overlooks. This is merely cruelly and persistently annoying.
- There is no good holder that comes with this unit. You would think that this would be an easy thing to fix.
- It is very slow to upload the media onto the unit.
- Crappy earbuds (like every other player) don't stay in your ears, one wire much longer than the other practically ensures that moving around will jog the buds out of your ears, the electrical tape wrapped around the bottom of the 'ear plugs' got sticky and loose and the surround that holds the mesh over the speakers is difficult and popped off and could not be put back on. I got new silicone ones that work quite well along with/when I ordered my 'wire buddy' (from Amazon ~ works great!) to control the excess wire. Wire Buddy solved a lot of the practical problems - I'm not much of an audiophile - I can almost hear it over the vacuum; it seems a little loud at night to not disturb a spouse who isn't already asleep.

A great little unit for the price. Easy to download MP3's to it and good battery life. Use it when bike riding instead of the cumbersome CD unit I was using.
