Great buy. August 21, 2008 Beautiful product, I am highly satisfied with the product and would recommend the buy. The screen is bright and has very good colors in normal light but sometimes is difficult to read the text under sunlight. The 16GB memory gives me plenty of space for my favorite music and the sound quality is superb connected to an audio equipment. It was a nice surprise to discover that it supports SDHC memory cards so now my ZEN has and additional 4GB card. Navigation is easy but sometimes the buttons need extra pressure in order to work.

Wow, I bought this to upgrade from my 4 GB iPod nano (2gen) I love it! It works perfectly (so far). Hopefully reading this you know about the promoted features but here are some things I would've loved to know before I bought it.
It has this awesome advanced shuffle feature. You start playing something then simply navigate to any category and you can add it to the list of what to listen too. (like adding a single artist or cd or song) If you have it on shuffle you can listen to any selection of music shuffled together. You can save this list as a playlist as well. This is a feature I use constantly.
Also, I read a lot of complaints about the SD card slot. I find it useful, if only for videos or pictures. I was on vacation and my memory card on my camera was full, I simply put the SD card into my player, imported all the pictures and then cleared it, so I would be free to take more pictures.
This player also has some handy little features that are well integrated. I can change the play mode right from the song menu (it's impossibly annoying on the iPod). The My Shortcut button is also immensely useful, I have it set to go to Date and Time. Navigating through long lists is so much easier than even the brilliant design of the iPod. I have 2010 songs on here and I can find them twice as quick as on the iPod. My last little feature is that you can zoom in on a portion of a picture and set that portion as your wallpaper. (very useful for moving the center of the picture so it isn't covered by the icons on the main menu)
I'm not going to mention the sound quality because even though it is great, it depends heavily on the headphones (I have some Sony's that work well).
The software is also good, fast, effective and very easy to use. One thing I did notice is that it cut off the end of some information, like my artists, songs or album information. It's a little weird but easily fixed. This only happened about five times and is such a minor bug I almost didn't mention it.
I will warn you, it's thicker than it looks in that isometric view they have on the page. Also the placement of the headphone jack is a bit annoying when trying to operate one handed. I will give the designers credit that it was the only place they could've put it without it being even more annoying.
Overall, an excellent mp3 player that I would (and have) highly reccommed to anyone who will listen. It has a very well thought out design and it works perfectly.
Great value for a great player August 15, 2008 This player is completely customizable. The customizable shortcut button is very nice. It also syncs with Outlook for schedule managment, one of my favorite features.
great product August 13, 2008 I have had this player for a little over a month now, and am still learning about it. I really enjoy everything this MP3 player has to offer. I am giving it only 4 out of 5 stars only because I am not entirely impressed with the radio reception. If you're in a gym, I am certain it works well, but it you want to use it as a walkman and listen to the radio outdoors, you might not get stations as well-unless you live in a large metro area. Otherwise- terrific! Long battery life, great graphics, and easy to use.
Good, but maybe don't update the firmware August 11, 2008 I have owned a Creative ZEN Micro for a few years, but it was getting full and the earphone jack was no longer functional. I wanted to stick with Creative because I have always found their products to be pretty sound and went with this item.
When I received it, I figured I'd check for software/firmware updates. Since I hadn't done anything with it yet, I decided to update the firmware. Probably a bad idea (caveat: since I never used it before the update, I don't know if this caused my problem). Now it freezes constantly to the point that I carry a paper clip with it just so I can reset it. Oddly, the freezing only happens when using earphones. When plugged into my PC with the USB cable, I never have an issue. I bought this thing back in Feb.
I am either sending it back to Amazon or doing an RMA with Creative for this (not sure which). I ordered a new one from Amazon as well and I may just leave the bad one at work where I often use it just via USB cable connected to my PC.
I like the unit alot, so I am willing to give a new one a try, without doing any updates. I bought one for my wife and she has no problems at all, and she never did any updates (and now is afraid to because of my issues).
I also don't like how it imports CD's - for example mix CD's I have burned at home. It seems to sort these by artist, but I prefer by album. I have actually found a way to work around this, though a bit cumbersome.
Anyway, It's a pretty solid unit from a company who makes pretty decent products. If my new one doesn't work, I'll find a another brand.
