5 out of 5 stars Nice Player   September 22, 2008
Initially, I purchased the Sandisk Sansa 1GB, which was a nice player but I was not happy with the radio reception. The 1GB would have been enough space, and the sound was very good with the supplied buds, but better with a set of already owned Sony buds.

I decided to give this Phillips a try and I'm glad I made the switch. The radio reception is a little better, but the sound is much better than the Sansa (with Sony buds). The buds which come with the Phillips are not that good. If you don't want to invest in extra buds, then go with the Sansa.

The Phillips does not have a clip but it does have a pin where one can attach a lanyard. I suspect a tape on clip made for a cell phone would work good and Phillips may even sell a clip for this player.

3 out of 5 stars First MP3 Player   September 16, 2008
This is my first MP3 player. I wanted to buy a player with video and color but I did not want to pay too much money. So, I decided on this $49.99 player that I purchased from Wal-Mart. The main dissatisfaction I have with this player is turning the player off. It is so hard to turn the device off. The instructions say to press and hold the button in the middle. This never worked for me. I end up putting the song on pause and then after a few minutes the device will automatically shut itself off.

5 out of 5 stars fantastic little player   August 23, 2008
I am very happy with this tiny, well made, mp3 player. The sound quality is very good and excellent with Philips SHE775 headphones. It features a FM radio which has very good reception. The screen is 128 x 128 and a bit to small to watch video clips. You can record voices with the built-in microphone. It doesn't allow you to make your own playlists, but you can do the selection on the PC and then upload the music onto the player. Overall, I enjoy this player very much!

1 out of 5 stars stay away   July 28, 2008

I cant believe how stupid the design is for this player- you cannot create and organise your music into custom folders- its just lumps all the tracks together, and then gives you the option to sort by album, artist and genre, as found on the individual tracks of the mp3. so if your tracks dont have that info, you are pretty much stuck with a huge mess. This feature or lack of a feature is a deal breaker- Im definitely returning this product right away.

One of the frequently asked questions is "my music isnt playing in the correct order"- do you know what their answer is- prefix all your tracks with 001, 002, 003 etc- COME ON!!!! you cant be serious????

the software has an update facility, but it doesnt matter what you do, the software cannot pick up your player- I mean you are transferring files, and the brilliant piece of software tells you that no devices are connected.
Good luck if you hope to get any support from philips, they are completely incompetent- they dont answer your emails and the site bombs out all the time.
The player can only be charged via the USB port of your pc, so if you are going camping or somewhere where there is no access to a pc you can only listen for the 8 hours or however long your battery lasts, unless you purchase a separate USB charger.

apart from that, its good looking, small, the screen quality is pretty good, the sound is good, it has a radio, and does support videos-although it only supports WMA video files that need to be converted to its own format with a little utility program found on the installation cd.

4 out of 5 stars Philips Go Gear MP3 player   July 21, 2008
Pros: Generally nice, very small, lightweight, good sound quality, when I used Sony headphones (not headphones supplied with this player) or in the car with cassette adapter. The sound frequency range feels even better then specified (80 - 18000). No problems with bass. Multilingual support.

Contras: Low battery life. It is specified up to 12 hours, but actually, only 1/4 capacity left after 4 hours. May be because of hot and humid weather. Also cannot create play lists or folders. The songs are searchable by album, artist or genre.

So I changed it to Sony, which allows search by play lists or folders, has 33 hours battery life (not tested yet), and sound frequency range 20hz-20000hz.
It is almost the same size, but march heavier, probably because it uses Li- ion battery, not Li- ion polymer, like Philips.
