4 out of 5 stars lots of space and good looking   September 4, 2008
its a quality mp3 player with awesome headphones. you'll have more than enough space for thousands of songs a bunch of converted videos.there are only a few complaints. the touch button is easy to accidently push while in pocket. you can turn off the touch feature but that detracts from the players coolness and ease to use. also as a warning, do not take snowboarding or i guess any physical activity. if you pay this much make sure to be careful with it. Mine broke and i had to go to a psychiatric ward. jk its a sweet mp3 player buy it if you hate apple and dont want a creative.

5 out of 5 stars Great Product   September 2, 2008

I've owned my 80GB Zune for over 6 months now and I love it. I owned an old Yepp (now my youngest sons player) and my 10-year-old has an off-brand player. The Zune surpasses these.

Pros:
- easy to use
- great sound
- decent picture
- overall size
- amount of space

Cons:
- I have had no problems with my Zune.

I choose the Zune because I didn't want to be limited to only using a specific music service. I had no problem ripping my CD's. The software recognized the artist and song immediately. The only thing I did have to do was tag music I had recorded because it didn't have tags. I have added most of my DVD collection and other videos with no problem. And I love the Zune market place.

The ease of use issue was recently brougt home to me. My husband, who can't even turn on my laptop, picked up my Zune and started using it. Now he wants one of his own.

In general, if you are lookig for an MP3 player with alot of space for a decent price go with the Zune.

5 out of 5 stars Exceptionally Happy with Zune Device   August 31, 2008

Zune 80GB (red)--purchased over iTouch and over Samsung YP-2P Widescreen, and very happy I did. For those who like FM radio, Zune is preferable to iPod. User interface is straightfoward (though learning how to turn unit off entirely to save battery life is important and not obvious). I've downloaded extensive music collection onto the unit, and more than a dozen full length movies from dvd. Spent some time on the internet to figure out best way to rip/decode dvds, shrink them, and then encode the files to a format that synced well with Zune device. After a week or so of experimenting, I found that well known and safe freeware programs could transcode movies in both full screen (320x240) and widescreen formats (320 x 180) compatible with Zune. Full length feature movies use about half a gig, so there's room for quite an audio and video library on the Zune. This capacity for only slightly higher price made Zune preferable to Samsung unit above.

Unit is solidly built. I bought a hard (metal) case for protection and none too soon-wife dropped it first time she held it. No damage, period. I use it on a daily bike commute and when doing yardwork. So, far, excellent overall performance. I liked it so much, I decided to buy my younger daughter a 8GB (pink) Zune rather than an iPod nano because I was able to get twice the drive space for less than the price of the nano, and got the radio. (Older daughter has 30GB iPod Video so we're familiar with both products.) Same software combination allows storing movies on 8GB unit (though the small screen makes me wonder whether watching movies on it makes sense--10 year old daughter says it is, but I couldn't do it!). Anyway, 8GB unit has 3 Harry Potter films on it and music, and just barely half filled. Also, the sync feature between the 80GB and the 8GB unit worked flawlessly, though of limited use since synced items are playable only 3 times. Wireless syncing with library also functions well, but makes sense only for minor updates. Turning off wireless option helps to save battery, so it's a trade off.

Only caveat at this point is that video encoding produces a file that is rendered a bit dark, too dark for viewing in a well lit room or outside during daylight. Does not really affect B&W video files (even film noire pics like Big Sleep for instance).

Strongly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Finally off of iTunes   August 31, 2008

Ok, my purpose to getting a Zune was to get off the iTunes train. On Windows iTunes is a beast -- at least for me it was. The Zune software is much better, although I would much have preferred that Microsoft just use Windows Media Player... Or give me the choice to do so. Integration is a good thing, and sometimes they just don't get it.

The software syncs perfectly, and it grabs videos from my Media Center, as well. The Zune's screen is just AWESOME. The interface is so much better than my old Video iPod 30GB. Syncing is so much easier, too... No need to eject your Zune, you just unplug it. Get off the iTunes train and join the Zune Revolution!

OH! I almost forgot, the wireless features are just awesome. I love being able to sync wirelessly and also share my music with my wife and friends.
