Product Description Whether in homes, factories, offices, airports, or on the street, it's hard to imagine a place where Philips is absent. What Philips wants is to make your life and work easier - and more fun! And Philips continuously explores new ways to improve products and to offer innovative products to its consumers. Philips. "Let's Make Things Better".
Amazon.com Product Description Enjoy sparkling high-definition programming without forking over monthly digital cable or satellite fees with this Philips indoor HDTV/UHF antenna. The device is specially designed to receive HD broadcast signals from the major free networks in all primary reception areas. If the affiliate broadcasts in HD, the PHDTV1 will receive it, provided the user also owns an HD-compatible television. The highly directional antenna features a high front-to-back ratio that helps reject unwanted signal corruption, ensuring that your picture comes in clear and true. This feature is especially valuable in dense urban areas with crowded broadcast airwaves, where reflected signals can interfere with HDTV transmission. The antenna also offers a flat front gain slope that balances the reception throughout the UHF frequencies. The result is a consistently high-resolution picture regardless of which channel you choose. The PHDTV1--which also connects to PCs anywhere datacasting is available--has been endorsed by several HDTV-testing committees.

If everything worked this well........ January 7, 2009 If everything worked this well our automobiles would last a lifetime.
I purchased the Philips Silver Sensor on the advice of a friend that is actually in the Television business as a technical representative.
"Trust me". he said, "Just connect this thing up and point towards the transmitters and you'll have a clear, clean digital signal".
I connected the Philips Silver Sensor to a digital DVD Recorder that was connected to a small TV. Next I placed the Philips on a top shelf ruffly pointed to where I thought the transmitters were and turned everything on. After programming the channels into the DVD-R everything worked perfectly on the first try!
Clear, clean digital television in under 10 minutes. Great!
Wow! January 6, 2009 I live 50 miles northeast of Sioux City, Iowa, on a farm that we rent. We receive DirecTV, but have to rely on the free local over-the-air channels. I was one of the skeptics who had heard plenty of people tell me that I could not get decent digital reception with an indoor antenna, especially out here in the boondocks.
Well, after reading all (!) the reviews for this antenna, I took the plunge and ordered it. I placed it in the west-facing window sill of our living room, and set up the digital converter according to its instructions. I am very pleased to report that instead of the three fuzzy local channels I received earlier, I now receive 13 with a quality that rivals the channels I get with DirecTV.
This is an outstanding product, a terrific value, and one I will not hesitate to recommend to anyone.
Now I can watch the playoffs; oh boy, the Mrs. will love this! ;-)
It was simple and easy January 6, 2009 I have had my first HD TV hooked up to sattelite (Dish) for about 6-8 months. I wanted to pick up the local stations but was leery about the difficulty of linking this new antenna with the receiver. That, plus the various reports on difficulty pulling in over-the-air signals had me a bit worried....we are a bit isolated and no stations are nearby.
Well, lemme tell you, this was a breeze. Setup of the antenna was just snap it in the base, and go. I stuck it on top of our wall unit for testing, then plugged it in to the satellite reciever. My satelltite company had a feature to pair the antenna with the receiver in the setup menu with just a few clicks. It searched the channels and brought in every local station, with almost all of them at 100% signal. But even the one at 85% signal, still shows crystal clear.
I wish I would have done this sooner, well worth the money. One note of caution for other HDTV newbs, even if Amazon shows you that people who bought this also bought a HDMI cable, you dont need it. This uses its own cable, and there isnt even a slot for it, So, anyone want an extra cable?
Say Goodbye to the Cable Bill! January 3, 2009 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
My wife and I have been finding new ways to pinch pennies due to the poor economy. I decided that I'd try to find a way to lessen the pound of flesh Comcast takes from us every month for television (after all, we mainly only watch the free channels, anyway). We live in the 3rd story of an apartment complex in Eden Prairie, MN (about 20 miles away from most of the towers). After finding the best spot in the apartment for the antenna and some tweaking, I was amazed to discover that we were able to receive all of the major networks in crisp HD quality. This antenna has and will continue to pay for itself many, many times over.
Good Product, better price December 27, 2008 I bought this as a replacement for my grandmother's rabbit-ears antenna, as she just stepped up to the digital tier and has a nice 32" LCD Television (yet no cable!)
The quality of the signal is incredibly better than standard rabbit-ears/FM loop amplified antennas by comparison. For starters, this unit doesn't need to be plugged in to an AC outlet, which is a definite plus.
It worked with all channels that we could at least pick up on the old antenna, and did so without snow in the picture, no black and white channels, and increased the signal strength of the ATSC broadcasts in our area.
I recommend placing this antenna as high as you can in the room, and if you know the direction of your station, align it. This also increases signal strength, but this is NOT a directional antenna. All stations from the area are crisp and clear, just the ones we aimed it at were a tiny bit better.
