5 out of 5 stars Sony ICF-M1000 Table Top Radio   October 10, 2008
*I purchased this radio last year for $55, so my review will reflect that. I'm not comparing this to other $200 radios since I didn't pay anywhere near that.*

I purchased this radio for my grandmother last year after the radio she used crapped out. I wanted to get her a radio that wouldn't take up too much counter space, really high quality, and, most importantly, simple to use. This radio had all of those qualities and she loves it. The few stations she listens to come in crystal clear, she can turn the volume up without any hint of distortion, and there aren't a plethora of knobs and buttons. This radio may not be able to hang with other $200 radios, but if you are looking for a simple, great looking, high quality table top radio in the $50-$70 price range I don't think it can be beat.

5 out of 5 stars Finally found a little radio with a big sound and small price   October 8, 2008
I was surprised to find out how hard it was to find a radio with a good design and good sound. I tried several times with different radios.
This is the one I will keep and for that price.A very good deal and as a plus it matches my TV and my HT. Never thought I would write one of these but it was helpful to me and it helped me decide on this radio.
Thank you-Very pleased in New England

5 out of 5 stars Very satisfied!   September 21, 2008
I don't think most people realize how nice a high-end table radio can sound. They're a compact and integrated audio system capable of filling a room with powerful, high fidelity sound. I'm very satisfied with the ICF-M1000. You can play FM radio or hook up a media player using the cable that comes with it. For the $60 I paid with S&H I would say it's a fantastic bargain. Clean design, simple controls, furniture-grade lacquered wood, full-range powerful speaker system--you can't beat it for the price.

I use it in my bedroom, which normally has very poor reception. The ICF-M1000 gets better reception than anything else I tried, but my favorite jazz station was sometimes fading in and out. So I picked up a small $8 Terk FM+ indoor antenna. Now the reception is about perfect.

3 out of 5 stars A flawed but adequate product   September 18, 2008

The first thing I noticed about this radio was that the display light never shuts off which could be an annoyance for some. Second there are no radio presets and the volume control knob is in the middle of the knob array rather than the top. Radio reception in my application is adequate but not impressive (I am the top of a mountain with line of sight to all stations). The worst flaw is that the sound is not just warm like other radios of this ilk but is in fact boomy. This makes it fatiguing to listen to. The build and finish are very good and the radio is attractive and stylish. I could only recommend it in the $50 price range.

5 out of 5 stars Nice looking, smooth controls, good sound   September 3, 2008

I bought this radio based upon other favorable reviews. I have never seen a Tivoli, Boston or Sangean, but I'm not unfamiliar with good hi-fi equipment. This radio has a beautiful glossy black cabinet (like a piano), is very easy to use, and since I have kids I love the fact that the tuner knob cannot be rotated past its stops (because there are none, the tuner knob will continuously rotate). Soundwise, it sounds very good for a single speaker radio. Reception is very good, both AM/FM. It has a hookup for an external FM antenna, but not for an AM antenna. This is a very good radio (not to be confused with a clock radio) and the only thing that I feel this radio lacks are some buttons for preset stations. A nice piece of equipment that you won't be diasppointed with.
