Great guitar January 8, 2009 This guitar is a nice beginner guitar. It looks great and the amp that comes with it has a good sound. I bought it for a gift at the prompting from a friend, and it was very well received.
misrepresented name but good product January 7, 2009 The name of this product leads you to believe it is a stratacaster "strat pack". It is an over all decent product, but I would not purchase it again.
Great Starter Guitar Package for a Beginner January 7, 2009 I bought this for my son (10 YO) who wanted to learn how to play guitar. He loves it and is learning quite well.
Pros: Sounds great. Quality manufacturing. Amplifier is great for practicing. The included instructional DVD helps a beginner learn very fast. Everything included that a beginner needs to play out of the box.
Cons: The strings are not high quality. The tuner is not that good.
Overall, a great guitar for a beginner to learn how to play.
Nice starter kit January 4, 2009 Bought this for my 12 yr. old nephew, the budding rock star. As a first guitar and amp, the price is right, and the amp tone is sufficient. The guitar itself has surprisingly decent action, hardware, the neck is tight and a nice wood color. It feels solid enough to withstand the rigeurs of his first sold out worldwide tour next week. OK, it certainly is not going to satisfy true strat fans, but a kid starting out needs to learn the basics first. So far I have him doing scales only with the included headphones, otherwise the first squawk from the amp will have his mother throwing it out. The kid is grinning ear to ear when he straps the sucker on. Recommended purchase.
holding up really well January 4, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
For someone just starting out, this is an excellent buy.
I bought mine in 2004 when this package first hit the market. Still works great. The action (the space between the strings & fretboard) has held up well. The electronics have held up on mine, although the one I bought was made in Indonesia; not sure if they are still made there or in China.
Everything that came with it is still working great (tuner, strap, cord, amp, gig bag).
When it is new, it goes out of tune quite frequently, not only from the strings being new; but also since this is a $200 bundle, the hardware is not what you'll find on a $700 Strat.
My musician friends all agree that the Starcaster sounds and plays close enough to a Stratocaster that you could do ameteur performances with it; but doubt that you'll ever see a Starcaster at a paid gig.
If the Strat style is not your thing, check out the First Act Paul Westerberg signature model.
Now that I've made the jump to another guitar, I still use this one when I travel and have taught myself how to adjust the neck, action, and change hardware. So it is not only great to learn to play, but also great for learning how to maintain, adjust, upgrade, and repair a guitar.
