Product Description The KA009 portable radio is perfect for emergency situations and is also ideal for anyone who does not have access to a reliable AC power source. The radio can be powered by solar energy, batteries, AC adapter and hand-crank generator (magneto). With coverage of the AM/FM/TV/AIR/VHF (Weather) broadcast bands, plus 4 shortwave bands, you'll never run out of things to listen to!

Kaito multi-powered emergency radio September 20, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Good bargain. I ordered this a while back to have in case of emergencies. Mainly for the weather band and light. It has more than paid for itself twice now. Most recently with Hurricane Ike outages. Very bright single LED light. Small and doesn't take up much room. Only thing I would have liked is a backlit dial.
NOT WATERPROOF!!! July 28, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I haven't even listened to the radio - didn't even crank it once. As soon as I realized their waterproofing was a PLASTIC BAG, I sent it back. We need a radio for fishing on the boat or kayaking down the river. I could have "waterproofed" a regular radio that I already had with a plastic bag - then I would have saved $40.
Junk July 20, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Awful audio quality. Unable to receive weather broadcasts even though three other radios in my home had no problem. Shortwave reception unusable (multiple images, etc.). I returned it and instead purchased a Radio Shack Emergency AM/FM/Weather Band Crank Radio 20-108. It has excellent audio quality, and good Weather Band reception. (I am not affiliated with Radio Shack.)
Nice little radio July 11, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I am very impressed by this radio's design and all the features. Most importantly, it has very good reception on both AM and FM bands. I am not really a shortwave listener, so no comment on that. Overall, it's a great buy for its price.
Kaito KA009 Emergency Radio, July 8, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This works just fine as emergency radio. We are up in mountains and isolated so this is great for power outages, shortwave reception, and the crank works well to power the radio as needed.
