1 out of 5 stars Beware   July 1, 2008

I used one of these for a year in Iraq and never had a problem with it, however when I purchased one to use in the States, I was very disappointed. I needed it to power a 230 volt air conditioner that draws a max of 1800 watts. Even though this transformer is rated at 3000 watts, the circuit breaker would trip every time I tried to use the air conditioner. I spoke with the customer service at VTC Electronics and was told that not only did I need a 5000 watt transformer but that this one is not the right phase to use in the States. The customer service representative was very rude and condescending. She said that I should have known that information about the transformer before buying it, even though that information is not available on either the Amazon site or the VTC Electronics website. And since this product was shipped from VTC Electronics and not from Amazon, I would have to pay the shipping (about $25) if I wanted to return it. Overall, a very bad experience and I don't plan to ever buy another product from VTC Electronics.

5 out of 5 stars Great Converter   March 8, 2007

It is a very reliable converter. Converts 110v and 220v, and runs quiet and stays cool. Circuit breaker on it is a great safety feature.

3 out of 5 stars Beware   February 7, 2007

First I gave this 2 stars becouse of the 5 that I bought only 2 work. They are heavy and work well if they work, but that is spotty. 2 of the 5 did not work out of the box. The other stopped working after a power outage. I live in Africa, I get about 2 power outages a day. After the 3rd one broke I took off the cover and poked around inside for a fuse, or something, the wiring appears to have been done by a 3 year old. Wires that too short and too tight run along areas of the transformer that it should not run along.

My only comment beyond this is be beware.
