Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Product Description
An ideal recipe for great-sounding entertainment in the kitchen, GE's Spacemaker AM/FM/TV band clock radio installs discretely underneath a counter, cabinet, or desktop, where it delivers space-efficient performance time and again. The device, which sports an attractive white finish, is designed to complement most kitchen appliances and many countertops, adding to its appeal. Audio-wise, the Spacemaker includes a digital AM/FM tuner that lets you listen to everything from music channels to NPR programs while you prep foods, along with accompanying TV band tuner that picks up the audio frequencies of channels 2 through 13. The tuner even picks up weather band channels, so you'll always know when the weather is taking a turn for the better or a nasty storm is rolling into town. Adding to the convenience are the 20 station presets (five for each band), which let you quickly switch to your favorite channel or surf among several.

Listeners will also delight in the pair of 4-inch front-firing speakers, which provide crisp, clear stereo sound, and the smooth membrane touch pad controls, which wipe clean easily in just a few seconds--an ideal fit for busy kitchens.

The Spacemaker is more than just a radio, however. It also offers a digital clock and alarm with a large 1.25-inch backlit display, along with a three-position counter light. And to assist with cooking tasks, GE threw in a countdown timer that counts down from 59 minutes, making it easy to remember the precise moment when a cake needs to be removed from the oven. The counter light is also handy, with a generous beam for countertop illumination and a low setting that functions as a night light. The Spacemaker even comes with a 40-watt bulb.

Additional features include a bass boost function that enhances the low-end sound; a battery backup function (requires two AAA batteries) that preserves the settings during power outages; built-in AM and FM antennas to improve reception; and convenient cord hooks that keep the power cable from getting in the way. The Spacemaker comes with all the necessary mounting hardware and adjustable spacers to fit various types of kitchen cabinets. And at 10.5 by 2.75 by 8.75 inches (W x H x D), it takes up a minimum of space. The unit is also backed by a one-year warranty on parts and labor.

4 out of 5 stars Very Satisfied   May 27, 2008
I am very happy with this product. It has all the features I want. The reception is a bit weak for the Weather Band but I live in a very rural area. I pick up all local TV stations and most FM Frequencies. AM pretty weak as well.

5 out of 5 stars Well worth the modest price   May 25, 2006

Like another reviewer, we bought this as a replacement for an (much)earlier model. That one lasted quite a few years; this is one is even better. It's more compact, reception is excellent in FM, AM and TV, and very straightforward to operate, and the counter light is extremely useful. (Reception obviously depends on where you put it and how many radio stations you normally get well. The info booklet says to stretch out the cord for better reception, as the cord acts as an FM antenna; I didn't find it necessary to do that, however).
I bought this model because it has a counter light/night light. The counter light provides great working light, and the nightlight is just the right brightness. The blue backlight can be turned off or dimmed.
I highly recommend it; the more so for the money.

3 out of 5 stars GE 74235 Spacemaker AM/FM Undercabinet Radio   January 30, 2006

The GE Spacemaker undercabinet radio is, in general, a well designed compact unit. We purchased this radio to replace an older GE Spacemaker version. The new radio used the same mounting holes. The five presets for each radio band makes it very easy to select favorite radio stations. One of the disapointing features is the blue light background makes reading the clock rather difficult. Also, the description in the Amazon writeup indicated that the radio comes with a battery backup and bass speaker adjustment, but our unit did not have these features.

5 out of 5 stars Great looking   November 30, 2005

I just had my kitchen redone and the color scheme is mostly white with some blue. I didn't realize that this radio had a blue-lighted face that you can also turn off. The white clock radio fits perfectly under my cabinet, was quite easy to install and plays very well. The light included with this radio is great when working at the counter and at night time I turn it on to the lower switch and use it as a night light. I think I need better reception to pick up on the weather station but overall, this clock radio works great, looks good and it makes kitchen tasks much more fun doing it to music.
