Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Those old photo frames atop your dresser, desk, night stand and on your walls are vignettes of memories captured as prints in the era of film cameras. The digital-camera makes available a technology where photos don't have to be displayed as prints. They're displayed on screen, much like that of a TV set or a computer monitor. This frame uses LCD flat-panel technology and, at 2-1/4" deep, fits almost anywhere a standard frame would. The difference - this frame is not limited to display only 1 or a few pictures. A digital picture frame can display dozens (if not hundreds) of images off a digital-memory card.
Here's a dandy way to display all those digital photos you're accumulating. Display one or all (in slideshow mode) directly from an SD, MMC, xD, or CompactFlash memory card. It's a great way to view your favorites on a table or on a wall - just like a regular picture frame. Yet COBY DP102 adds a unique feature. It has built-in speakers so you can play MP3 and WMA music files from your memory cards. You can even create photo slideshows with music. The DP102 has a USB port that lets you play photos stored on digital media drives. Its LED backlit screen delivers bright images for viewing in almost any situation.
This is a perfect frame to give to your parents and grandparents. Let them see pictures of you all the time from a memory card you provide them. It has a dual-volt AC adapter for international capability. Plays Most MP4 and AVI Video Files from Digital Cameras Photo Slideshow with or without Music AV Output for play through with Home Theater Systems SD - MMC - xD - CF Card Slots Full-Size USB Port for use with Flash Memory Drives USB Port for Fast File Transfers Integrated Stereo Speakers Interchangeable Faceplate (Black or White) to match your decor Detachable Stand Table use or Wall Mountable

1 out of 5 stars Mine didn't work   November 19, 2008
I bought this from Long's. It powered up fine and showed the demo slideshow, but nomatter what I did, my photos showed up as a black screen. I tried a photo card and it said it couldn't read it. I tried a flash drive, and there was no jpeg preview and the photo was black. I tried to plug it directly into my camera and it still came up with no preview and a black screen. I even called Coby tech support to find out if I was doing something wrong and she told me to return it. I thought this would be a good deal for the money, but now I'm just going to go out and spend the money on the Sony version. I hope it works.

3 out of 5 stars Does the job   November 17, 2008
Resolution is not great, but you can certainly see the pictures. We tried using full resolution pictures (multi-megapixel) and slimmed down pictures, but they looked the same. The pictures from our SLR looked much better (less pixelated) than the point-shoot camera. Not sure why that's the case.

The buttons are a bit small. We actually bought this as a gift for my grandfather, and he has a difficult time flipping through the pictures. I wish there was something as simple as the iphone picture viewer at a reasonable price. That is what we were looking for....

1 out of 5 stars it was broken   November 16, 2008
I am very disappointed of Amazon. I order 2 frames one of them was broken

4 out of 5 stars Good with a little compromise   November 15, 2008

Well, the product is good for its price. But, the fact that the pictures do not fit your screen well irritated me initially until I found out a solution. You need a software to convert your 4:3 pictures to 16:9. The software I used is "JS PhotoPrep". You can convert all your pics at once. Once you download and install, check mark both "Perform Crop" and "Perform Resize". Select Crop ratio as 4X6 and "Desk-view" in Perform Resize with a High quality (for enlarging). Now use these pics on your Coby Photo frame. Once you get into the slide show mode, click the right arrow twice to get into the full screen mode. You should be able to see your pics coming on the full screen without distorting it. Hope this helps.

3 out of 5 stars Adequate frame, a little patience needed   November 4, 2008
I had thought about digital photo frames for some time, then received one as a gift, so I had no preconceived notions about performance. Overall I think this was a good basic introduction to the photo frame concept. I do turn mine off when not viewing (as you should with any electronic gizmo) and have not yet seen any image moving sideways.

Pros: I personally found it easy to set up, get it loaded with photos and start displaying, basically just loaded a USB drive, inserted it and turned on the frame. I like the 2-color frame feature though I haven't tried it yet. I like that it takes many kinds of memory cards as I may switch to a CF card so that it doesn't stick out the side of the frame. Seems sturdy enough to use other places than the desktop, this might be a fun thing to actually take to an event somewhere (family reunion, charity event, trade show booth for example), loaded with photos of past events, and set it up to display.

Cons: Photos need cropping to display properly and make maximum use of the pixels on the screen. I found N. Michael's review and instructions extremely helpful and they work great. This could be frustrating for folks not used to using graphics programs of any type, though, and is tedious to do for many photos like I have been. The resolution is adequate, though I was a bit surprised that the resolution was not higher, the display is somewhat pixelated, and a higher rez is definitely something I will look for in my next frame. The display is also quite contrasty and a little dark. I haven't been able to figure out how to move from one slide to next manually using remote in full-screen mode.

Again, overall, great basic introduction to the photo frame concept, and probably quite good for those whose expectations aren't high. I am enjoying it quite a lot as my digital photos aren't trapped on my computer anymore!
