Product Description Panasonic is proud to introduce a deluxe personal CD player with FM/AM Digital Synthesizer Tuner. Up to 40 second anti-shock memory assures flawlessly smooth playback performance even while walking or jogging. Heat-resistant polycarbonate body is designed to withstand outdoor use. Panasonic's S-XBS (super extra bass system) provides rich dimensional sound through lightweight portable stereo headphones. Slide-lock full open top cover assures reliable security and easy CD changes. Using 2 AA batteries, this CD player provides extended playtime of 25 hours, ensuring you'll have music whenever you need it. A digital tuner assures that stations won't drift once they're set, and owners can preset up to 30 stations in memory. The digital servo system helps the unit maintain tracking, even in difficult circumstances and Panasonic's exclusive MASH 1-Bit D/A conversion system ensures all your CDs will sound great. The player also has CD-R/RW playback capability.
Amazon.com Product Description The Panasonic SL-SX289V portable CD player was made with active use and listening flexibility as prime design factors. Spin your recordable audio CDs or listen to the radio, with an inline remote control or without. The choice is yours. The SL-SX289V features Panasonic's "No Skip" anti-skip system. "No Skip" construction was designed with rubber bushings to absorb the shock, while a thin and light anti-skip mechanism and anti-skip digital servo system add to the defense. It also boasts a digital-servo recovery system that can detect even a fractional difference in the CD's tracking and quickly recovers before it has a chance to "derail." And, the system is bolstered by an improved set of error correction chips together with a 40-second backup memory buffer. When a vertical shock (along the axis of the disc) causes a tracking error, the system plays back music from the memory buffer until correct tracking resumes. The radio offers 20 FM station presets and 10 AM. Since the SL-SX289V enables playback of CD-R and CD-RW discs, you can enjoy listening to CDs that you make in addition to conventional audio CDs. This unit also features programmable playback (up to 24 tracks, in your chosen sequence), random play, repeat play (either one song or an entire disc), as well as XBS bass boost. The player includes a "pop-up" disc eject mechanism for easy disc removal. The CD player uses two AA batteries (not included), which last up to 25 hours with CD playback and up to 75 hours using only the radio. You can also power the unit with an optional 4.5V AC/DC adapter, which lets you plug your portable CD player into an outlet. With a heat-resistant polycarbonate body, the SL-SX289V can be used in most outdoor settings without worry of damage. However, the unit should not be exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods. What's in the Box CD player, stereo headphones, and a user's manual.

I thought it was called the "Panasonic Jogger" July 5, 2002 Despite the product name, it is impossible to jog with this machine. For the first twenty minutes or so, it works reasonably well, with only a few skips every now and then. But after that, it gets worse and worse until by the end (I usually run for an hour) it stops 20 or 30 seconds for each second of music that it plays. It works just fine when I'm walking, but then, it's not called the "Panasonic Walker." I had frankly hoped for something better from Panasonic.
great while it lasted June 11, 2002 I really loved this cd player. It had everything a girl could want: resume play, a hold button, a puase button, great sound and it didn't skip. Unfortunatly however, less than 6 months after I bought it it dropped from a chair and broke in half and I couldn't fix it. So I really recommend this player but be sure to be careful w/ it.
Don't buy it - too fragile May 5, 2002 My daughter purchased a Panasonic SL-SX289V. Within a couple of weeks it was busted. It fell onto a linoleum floor from a height of 2.5 ft and was ruined. The hinge/latch mechanism was shattered.A few bumps are inherent in the life of a portable electronics gadget of any kind. Clearly Panasonic didn't do their homework in designing their CD players.
Poor CD Player April 3, 2002 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
The Panasonic SLSX289V portable CD player is the poorest machinery I've ever experienced using. It easily malfunctions when you put in a CD recordable disc, and there is no anti-shock button on the CD player, to prevent it from skipping. When I had to get this product fixed, Panasonic didn't do anything about it. Basically all that I got from this CD player, was a [$$$] AM/FM radio. What a waste of good money. If you're looking for a good portable CD player with a radio, get the Aiwa XP-R220.
NOT for Joggers January 10, 2002 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
This CD player is NOT for joggers. While I was walking at a fast pace, but not jogging, the CD player skipped for a second or two, which isn't too bad. As soon as I started running, it stopped playing, when I stopped running, it started playing again. It doesn't work when you are running!! Please, if you work out, don't get this player, go get the Sony Sport!!
