Product Description Panasonic portable CD/MP3 player model SL-MP36C can deliver up to 40 hours of MP3 and up to 30 hours of CD play before requiring a battery change. In addition to playing commercially produced music CDs, this player lets users enjoy home-recorded music which has been saved as MP3 music files and recorded onto CD-R or CD-RW disks. The MP3 format can hold huge amounts of compressed audio data while retaining excellent audio quality. Listeners can quickly access their personal MP3 music library by searching for albums with the convenient Album Skip function. Other features provided to make the most of MP3 playback include random play (file/album), repeat play (file/album) and 20-track random access programming. For CD playback, the unit also features 24-track Random Access Programming, Repeat, Resume, Skip/Search and Memory/Recall. A Hold switch is included to prevent accidental button activation. The player includes Panasonic's "No Skip" anti-skip system smooth playback mechanism and back-up memory buffers for skip-free listening enjoyment. The SL-MP36C also possesses top-mounted control buttons that are logically arranged, simplifying operation by touch. The large, easy-to-read dot matrix LCD displays disk status. Other features include a "pop-up" disk eject mechanism for easy disk removal, auto-power off to prevent battery drainage and a heat-resistant polycarbonate body.
Amazon.com Product Description With MP3 compatibility and everything needed to use the player with a car cassette deck, the SL-MP36C puts hours of entertainment at your fingertips. Load the player with a custom-made CD-R or CD-RW, and it's easy to organize MP3 files into a playlist of favorite songs or albums. The MP3 function can also be set to random or repeat play (for up to 99 tracks). The player was designed with a 45-second backup memory (100 seconds with MP3 files) to virtually eliminate CD skipping under normal listening conditions, and its heat-resistant polycarbonate body design suits it for all but the most extreme outdoor use. You can program the SL-MP36C to play at random, in a specified order, or to repeat one song or the whole disc, making it possible to enjoy favorite tunes without interruption. Panasonic's S-XBS (Extra Bass System) gives music an added bass boost for full, powerful sound. A top-panel LCD readout shows track number and elapsed time, while the player's slide-lock top cover keeps the player sealed during playback, so you'll never lose a disc to common jostling. By pressing a button inside the player, a CD pops up for easy removal. Panasonic's Power Last function makes two standard AA batteries (not included) last much longer than they would in another player, up to 30 hours, or up to 40 hours during MP3 playback. You can also run the player from rechargeable batteries (not included) or from the supplied AC adapter. To power the player in the car, just plug the car adapter into a cigarette lighter and you're ready to go. No matter what power source is used, the auto-power-off function shuts down the player when a CD ends.

MP3 buggy September 12, 2002 11 out of 14 found this review helpful
I just bought one of these. It could just be the one I bought, but... it works fine except for the following egregious problem: When it reads an MP3 file (and I tried several times on different CDs), it gets "confused" and treats each file as several different little tracks, making a delay between each one. At first I thought it was skipping, or buffer overrun, but nope, it's that weird thing. I will have to return it.
Good but disappointed July 19, 2002 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Pros Has played everything so far without skips PriceCons NO FREAKING REMOTE!!! No "scan" capability when listening to MP3's Big pause between songs when listening to MP3's Overall it's a pretty good unit for the price but it's missing some things that should be standard (like scanning). And I chose this model over others because it was supposed to have a remote.
SLIM, TRIM, AND FIT MP3/CD PLAYER July 7, 2002 20 out of 24 found this review helpful
I chose the Panasonic SL-MP36C for its inovative stylish good looks, it's amazing size, and it's versatility. The most amazing thing for me was this players size. In comparison to most portable CD/MP3 players in the market right now, this has got to be the smallest. I have compared it to most players out there, and not even SONY has come up with a smaller size MP3/CD player. To me it seems since this MP3/CD player thing is still new, most companies out there are starting us off with bulky equipment so that later you will be tempted to buy their newer slicker upcoming models. I think in that respect, Panasonic jumped the gun and gave the consumer what they really wanted. I purchased the unit mostly so that I could play my MP3/CD's in my car without having the need for a CD/CHANGER. The unit works beautifully and does not skip(45-sec for CD-DA and 100-sec for MP3 playback). The unit also offers up to 40 hours MP3 playback on two "AA" Alkaline Batteries and up to 30 hours for your regular music CD's making it the longest I have found. The unit has a stylish finish and is not thick or oversized/bulky like some others I have compared it too. Overall, it has been a great little MP3/CD player and with care should give you lasting hours of good music. The unit has Good quality sound and like most portable CD players, the headphones are not the best and should be replaced for some quality ones. I also found out that not all these units include the remote like you see in the picture, mine did not come with the remote (I don't know why) which would have been very helpful. I think maybe I should write Panasonic about it. So, if you want a slim, trim, and fit MP3/CD player I suggest you look at the Panasonic SL-MP36C.
