1 out of 5 stars You Get What You Pay For   July 9, 2004
I bought this thinking that I would save money. It worked great for 1 month. Then it just died. Now I must buy a new CD player. I would have been better off buying a higher quality player in the first place.

1 out of 5 stars Difficult to get the player to even play   June 15, 2004

I bought this player for the wireless feature for car use. The sound isn't great, but I mostly used it for recorded books, so it was acceptable. However, the 'shock protection' feature is useless. For a while, it played most CD's acceptably, but any vibration at all could stop the playback. Keeping the unit very still, I managed to use it for a couple of months, but it just got worse, till it now hardly plays anything at all. It may play for a few seconds, then just 'pause' permanently, or give an Error reading and stop, or do nothing at all. It's a great idea, but unfortunately not a great player.

1 out of 5 stars I Read Both Reviews, and The Manual and REGRET buying this   June 12, 2004
I believed Jamie 1733's reveiw and figured the bad review was written by someone who didn't read the instructions.I guess I should go thru _all_ my CD's and see which ones I won't be able to listen to in my car thanks to the DBBS PROBLEM. It works fair in the house but horribly in my car.My car radio sounds great! (Till you hook this CD player up to it).The few frequencies the wireless allows are all occupied by radio stations where I live. The first CD I put in (R.E.M. Monster) must have DBBS because it was completley distorted. I put Blind Faith in and it was acceptable. But thats a OLD CD and not a remaster.ALso the radio stations started bleeding through. Where I live there isn't one of those allowable frequencies that doesn't have a station on it. There is a college station nearby that eats up the entire lower end of the FM transmitter freq's On the uppers there are radio stations that bled through. The control buttons are cheap and poorly forged. I had rechargable batteries that went dead after 1 CD.I hoped that was why it sounded so bad. I bought some brand new batteries and it was just as bad. It does not take a lot of shock.(I jiggled it and it skipped with shock "protection" on) I was also totally unable to tune it in on a small digital transistor radio on every exact(CD players) frequency with the player right next to it.Maybe in China they don't have stations on those frequencies but in the Chicagoland area this market is saturated.. The wireless tx'er is built into the CD player. Thanks Jamie1733 for tricking me into wasting $41.00! The first review was completely accurate. PASS THIS CD PLAYER BY.---ADDITIONAL UPDATE The seller at Amazon was great, and I hold them faultless. But the player really stinks. I stopped here to post some new information. I am awaiting an authorization code return it,and since have bought a little FM transmiter made by GE that runs on batteries only. The same CD that plays horribly DISTORTED (REM "Monster") thru the Coby's transmitter sounds just finenow when played in the Coby using the GE transmitter. However in regard to another review here I have noticed that it just shut off a couple times when I just picked it up off the ~>couch<~very gently. Thats what caused me to change the batteries in the first place in my previous review. I thought about keeping it and avoiding the hassle of returning it using the GE transmitter (which runs on batteries, and is kind of a bummer,I kinda liked the idea of the lighter charger feature on this Coby) But if the problem only gets worse...forget it.

I can never get it to work after it has been sitting for a few days all it does is come up error. I like the wireless part but if it doesn't work then is not much good, maybe this was just a defective one I hope.

5 out of 5 stars A Real Money Saver (if you read the Manual First)   November 18, 2003
I have found The Coby CX-CD740 a Real Money Saver. I was on a 10 Day Road Trip and the only rental cars that came with a CD-Player were the Luxury Models. So I Rented a Compact and bought The Coby CX-CD740. It Plays Great. It can withstand alot of road vibration, and has alot of extra features. I would tell anyone that is thinking of saving some money on a rental car or doesn't want to deal with a wired tape to purchase this CD Player. I believe the bad review on this item was written from a person who just failed to read the informational instructions that comes with the unit. It does read in black and white,

"Some CD's with DBBS may exceed the bass response capacity and can cause distortion."

Or Perhaps the person just didn't understand how a CD-Player Functions. Whatever the case may be I will recommend this CD-Player to anyone and everyone. Thanks Jamie1733
