No Longevity August 30, 2007 I really wish this unit had longevity. I agree with a recent review that this player is awesome...convenient to use, reasonable sound and equaliser, and it is so battery-efficient. However I've gone through 2 of them now. I barely used the 2nd one before it gave up the ghost...what a shame. I would never in my right mind drop 100 bucks on a third...No way.

I have owned dozens of portable CD players over the years. This one should have been the best -- considering the fantastic longevity of the single battery, informative display, and sophisticated jog-wheel control -- but it is the worst.
I have owned four of these units. Three are in the trash can, and all three had the same issues: serious tracking errors even when sitting still; shutting down spontaneously and for no apparent reason. This would indicate that the electrical connection made by closing the lid has been interrupted. As it is a flimsy plastic unit with loose-fitting lid and lock, I suspect this is the case.
One machine out of the four I have owned works correctly, and it is a pleasure: solid tracking and good anit-shock. But I wasted money on three lemons. Not very good odds. But, if you're willing to pay a premium price relative to more solid players, and are willing to bank on a 75% failure rate, then be my guest.
UPDATE 2/4/07: Make that 100% failure rate. After five days use, the fourth (out of four) player developed a fatal defect, although a novel one: it has no sound output. The trash can is getting full, and I feel totally ridiculous for having purchased this dreadful and expensive product four times over.
This one works very well January 11, 2007 Very pleased with this cd player. Runs forever on one battery. Sound quality is good. Easy to use controls. The compression software that came with this model works better then good. Great for language tapes and such. Easily book marked making it simple to go back a few seconds. The controls are a little too easy to activate so watch what you lay on top of it. The cats are always turning it on if I leave it on a chair!

this thing skips...badly. even if you're sitting still, the thing skips when you least except it even after it's played the cd correctly several times through before.
