Small enough to keep with you at all times and ideal for achieving peace and quiet in planes, trains, buses, and cars, Sony's MDR-NC6 noise-canceling over-ear headphones reduce perceived outside noise by more than 70 percent (up to 10 dB at 300 Hz) so you can hear musical nuances against a quieter background. The headphones' noise-canceling circuit senses outside noise using tiny, built-in microphones and sends an equal-but-opposite canceling signal to the headphone drivers, effectively blocking solid-state (continuous) noise from 40 to 1,500 Hz. It's especially effective on noises like air-conditioning systems, freeway rumble, and airplane engines (from a passenger's perspective). The switchable noise-canceling circuitry runs for approximately 30 hours on a single AAA alkaline battery. When noise canceling is off, the headphones continue to function for standard music listening (and with slightly better sound quality). The headphones' neodymium-magnet diaphragms deliver powerful sound. I have over 20 headphones of all brand and prices and these have allowed me to hear new sounds on songs I have never heard. I was not sure I had the right music playing at first. This is as close to heaven I'll ever get or need to.
If there is a better sound out there at any price God it and would want to keep them.
I can adjust them for comfort, I have 2 thumbs.

A headset canceling only low-frequency noise is like sunglasses that cut glare only in the red. Better than nothing, but leaves you wanting more. Otherwise quite good. Sound quality is great, and construction is fully adequate for normal use - unlike others I've seen reviewed, these appear unlikely to break in the near future. I use them on public transport with moderate success. One feature I haven't seen noted is a boost in the volume when the noise canceling is turned on. At first I thought this was just a way of cheating (increasing signal to noise by increasing signal), but I've found it helpful - quicker than going to the MP3-player volume control. A suggestion for Sony: a noise-canceling headset that also keeps your ears warm in cold weather, for waiting at the bus stop.

The headsets were received in just a few days, and they work great. I have to be careful when I put them on, because I can't hear anyone in the house trying to talk to me.

Bought these headphones about 3 weeks ago and have found that I can only wear them for about 15-20 minutes max. The NR feature has a high pitch tone that drives me nuts when there is no music playing. When music is playing I can tolerate it for a little while. I have found that using the headphones with the NR feature off is a little more comfortable for me but the headphones do tend to push hard against your head getting very uncomfortable for long play listening. They do produce a nice sound if you can overlook these two things.

This product cancels noise great and allows both my boyfriend and I to enjoy two different listening situations without interfering with each other. They are heartier than others I have purchased in the past.
