I thought it was just my player, but after reading the reviews above I'm getting the picture that's not the case. Mine won't even play recorded CDs, even though it's supposed to. I was going to ship it back, but I think I'd be better off not even paying for the shipping and just buying a new CD player.
OK - Once you know what works December 3, 2006 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I have had the same problem with the unit halting on MP3 playback. After experimenting, I found that it seems to be related to the use of folders. I have put all the mp3's in the root directory of RW CD's and it does not exhibit the problem. Random playback works well. 128Kb/s files cause an occasional pause, but the player recovers without a problem. This seems to be less of a problem with 96Kb/s files, which is less taxing on the buffering process.
Overall, I'm now pretty pleased with the unit. I'm not happy with Philips' support and lack of guidance in successful mp3 playback.
I thought with a Philips name it would be good May 5, 2006 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I sadly bought this without reading any reviews, and sadly I had the same problem.
When playing mp3 CD's the Philips AZ1303 would often stop at certain tracks before or during play, and revert back to track one, then stays idle.
After making 3 different CD's burning at slower speeds to reduce error I realized it was the player not the CD's, so I decided to send it back to Amazon. New yeah right...
I do have to say that the radio on the player is one of the best I have seen with little or no static even indoors.
So if your looking for an expensive radio then this player is right up your alley, but if your looking for an actual CD Radio with MP3-CD Playback, then I would look somewhere else because Philips can't live up to it's name with this product.
AVOID!
Not very good. January 14, 2006 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
the radio reception was poor, and i had the same problems as the other reviewer. it would never finish a whole song on an MP3 disc without skipping and just stopping altogether. avoid at all costs.
DO NOT BUY THIS! November 7, 2005 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
I had nothing but problems with this. It would not play MP3s as the description indicates. It would not play in random mode. I could not skip to the next track. It would not play more than a few seconds of a song before stopping.
I was unable to locate support on their website. Their customer service support was terrible.
Do not buy this!
