Amazon.com Review
Explore the storyline of the hit Nickelodeon cartoon Avatar: The Last Airbender. Kids can help Aang and Sokka repel attacks on the Air Temple by warriors of the Fire Nation. The Lego Avatar Air temple comes with 400 pieces and a full-color, illustrated instruction booklet that diagrams model construction in 42 steps. The finished model features a trap door, a working seesaw-like catapult that flips figures or blocks outward in the temple's defense. The front gate is made up mostly of round, single-stub pieces that simulate wood logs. A locking mechanism built into the gates keep the temple secure from invading Fire Nation soldiers. Fire Nation is equipped with a convertible canon/tank capable of shooting little red disks about five feet in distance. Inside the box you'll find seven parts bags, two temple side pieces, plastic hang glider wings, seven decals, and a base plate to serve as the temple's foundation. Also included is an illustrated block inventory with part numbers, in case you ever need to re-order a replacement block. --Porter B. Hall

5 out of 5 stars Great Gift for Avatar Enthusiast   January 18, 2008
My husband and I bought this as a Christmas gift for our son, who is a big fan of Avatar, despite many reviews indicating that it was difficult to put together. My 9 year old son put it together all on his own - it did take him a while, but by following the instructions he was able to do it. It gave him a great sense of accomplishment, and kept him busy for a couple of days over the Christmas break - at least it was time spent on quality play instead of at the computer or in front of the TV. The only disappointment was that the set did not include one of the main female characters, Katara. In any case, I would highly recommend this for any Avatar fans.

4 out of 5 stars Fun for an avatar fan!   March 12, 2007

The Air temple is a great Lego set with lots of potential for play beyond just assembly. No misrepresentation on Lego's part as the product description is accuurate, but be aware that a young Avatar fan may be disappointed that there's no Katara minifig in this set. She's a major character in the series so this is a great source of distress for my son.

This set is consistent with the quality of other Lego sets we've had. Good: clever design, challenging, super-durable individual pieces, aesthetically nifty. Bad: fragile once constructed, requires super fine motor dexterity to put and KEEP together, lots of adult support needed for the under 10 or easily frustrated crowd.

I agree with other Lego reviews in general that the difficulty level of the Lego sets frequently exceeds the target age of interest in the lisenced characters. My son is a huge Avatar fan, but he is only 5, so I bought it knowing that I would be doing most of the work. The age range on the box is 7-12. Could a 7YO really put this together? Are 12YOs interested in Avatar? Are Danish children just really gifted in spatial reasoning? I don't know. It works for us, though, cause I love Legos. He picks them out and "we" put them together. I'm 39 and in my day girls didn't get Lego sets so this is just way fun for me.

As usual, Lego doesn't disappoint! My 9 year old was thrilled with this gift. Reasonable price for this Lego product.

4 out of 5 stars Perfect for a fan of Avatar and Legos   October 14, 2006

We bought this for our 8 year old daughter. It requires a good deal of time to put together and will require Mom or Dad's help (in our case, both). This made the toy a good family activity and we were able to put it together sitting in the middle of the living room floor over the course of several nights. The lego mechanics used are neat and thought provoking. My daughter has enjoyed playing with the legos and uses her imagination to rearrange them to build different items around the temple. I would recommend a plastic storage box for the temple and its associated pieces, otherwise you will be finding them with your feet and vacuum cleaner. Do count on further family activities as you engage in Avatar vs. Fire Nation battles with your child. I only gave four stars because of the complexity of the directions. An older child (about 10) would be able to assemble this alone, but may not get as much enjoyment out of it. It is definitely a family fun activity that any Avatar fan will enjoy.
