1 out of 5 stars Good form, bad function. Useless if the goal is to have a working iPod.   August 19, 2008
I have had this case for about a week. I love the way this case fits my iPod Touch and protects it from daily life. (Mine is a 16gb IPT, running iPhone 2.0) but it turned my iPod into a BRICK.

Soon after sliding my iPod into this case, I started experiencing consistent, random crashes from which I had to do a hard reboot to get it back on again, together with drained battery life after only a couple of hours instead of a couple of days. It would crash during standby so that when I wanted to check mail or play music it turned into an hours-long ordeal of trouble-shooting. MULTIPLE HARD CRASHES EVERY DAY.

I've spent the last week trying to figure out what was wrong with my previously-working-fine iPod by restoring it, re-installing iTunes and iPod software, updating everything, removing all of my Apps, re-installing Apps one at a time to see if any of them were the problem, and was up to contemplating returning my iPod. Then I discovered that a significant number of people are experiencing the same problem with cases that latch magnetically (this Griffin case is not the only one causing this problem...)

Apparently there are some users who do not experience these issues, but it has been awful for me. I don't recommend taking the risk. It has caused me to waste at least 16 hours of time trying to figure out the problem. NOT WORTH IT! I am returning this case.

4 out of 5 stars Works well; protects iPod in my briefcase   August 12, 2008
I like this case. It's sturdy, and I've had no problems as some users have mentioned. Very professional looking.

1 out of 5 stars Bad case   May 13, 2008

This will cause havoc with your touch, avoid like the plague.

I have tested with 2 different cases and this case most definitely crashes and drains the touch.

Magnets in case flap are most likely to blame.

Got this back as feedback from the support people at Griffin

We understand your frustration, and appreciate your concern. We've heard from a handful of folks like yourself that have run into strange issues with the Elan Convertible case, and even though we had already done a lot of testing before we released the case, we did even more testing. After all of our testing, though, we were unable to recreate any issues with the Elan Convertible and the iPods that we have here. Furthermore, we heard from several users that had had this issue that they ran into the same issues with multiple replacement cases, cases that we tested before sending them out.

From what we can tell, this issue is a result of bad shielding in the iPod, and not the fault of the Elan Convertible case. Still, if you'd like to exchange that Elan case for another case, just give us a call at (800) 208-5996 between 9am and 6pm Monday through Thursday or between 9am and 5pm on Friday (CST) and we'll see what we can do for you.

Hope this helps,

Mike

4 out of 5 stars Almost perfect, at least for my needs   April 6, 2008

I really like this case. It fits the Touch precisely; headphone jack and docking jack openings are just where they should be. I like that the belt clip is both removable and adjustable so that you can wear the device vertically or horizontally on a belt.

My only complaint, and it is minor, is that when the device is worn horizontally, the cover flap falls open quite easily. A stronger magnet might help. Otherwise, the case meets my needs perfectly.

1 out of 5 stars This case causes crashes.   March 17, 2008

I have to agree with the other two reviewers here. While it looks like a nice case and is quite functional, it really does cause the iPod to crash. Over about a month long period, I would sometimes take it out of my pocket and find a bright white screen and the battery almost dead. I actually returned the ipod and got a different one thinking it was defective, but the exact same thing happened with the new one. I stopped using the case, and it's been fine since then =/
