charges ipod up goood. November 29, 2008 This charges up an ipod without having to hook it up to a computer and go through an automatic sync process with itunes. It does it's job at an even pace, and i have had no problems with it. It was also delivered quickly. Thanks.
Griffin Keeps a Kickin' October 29, 2008 There is a reason why Griffin continues to be one of the "brands" people trust for iPod and iPhone accessories. It's not only their designs, but they usually always put out a quality product that delivers. This charger is no different.
While we all know the iPhone includes a charger, but who wants to have to use the sync cable for that all the time? I personally like having my sync cable near my computer, and prefer having a completely separate cable for charging. Just makes life a little more organized for me.
The charger features a shiny, plastic design, a flip out prong design, and, of of course, includes it own sync cable. The charger also features an LED light to indicate when charging is complete (it will change from red to green).
Wonderful product, probably not the greatest price, but well worth it considering the Griffin name.
Cheaper than Apple yet works just the same October 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This charger and cable combination works just as well as Apple's first-party device.
The Griffin AC USB charger puts out 5.2 volts @ 1,000 mA. Apple's first party iPhone 3G charger puts out 5.0 volts @ 1,000 mA. This means you won't have any problems charging the power-hungry iPhone 3G. Most older iPod-compatible chargers either provide 12 volts (from the FireWire days) or a mere 5.0 volts @ 500 mA (comparable to a USB port). The LED indicating that the device connected does not have a full charge illuminates red instead of amber despite the description found on the box and in the manual. Obviously, this does not affect the functionality of the unit.
The cable provided closely matches the OEM sync and charge cable included with a modern Apple iPod-style product. The length is the same as Apple's cable, unfortunately, so reaching a wall outlet or power strip can be just as annoying as it would be with the first-part cable. Unlike Apple's most recent cables, this one uses hooks which require two buttons to be pressed on either side of the iPod connector to dislodge.
Overall, I am pleased with the Griffin PowerBlock. The cost savings over Apple's first-party cable and AC charger are substantial yet it offers identical functionality. The PowerBlock offers a great mix of price and quality.
