IOGear USB PCI cards November 25, 2008 I attempted to install these cards in two different computers. In each case it caused the computer to lock-up. Only after a hard reset and removal of the offending card was I able to restore the machine. I have used add-on PCI USB cards in the past with no difficulty but these are absolutely worthless. Don't buy them!
Fast - but incompatible with WD Passport November 10, 2008 I bought this to speed up the connection to a 1TB Western Digital "Book" drive. And it increased my transfer speed to SATA drives in the system by about 30% - 50%.
And the extra ports are nice, but these USB ports apparently don't supply enough power to run a WD Passport drive. It does work with other USB-Powered devices, so I'm guessing the HDD just pulls too much current.
Other than that, I'm very happy with it.
High Speed at a very sLOW cost October 9, 2008 The IOGear hi-speed USB 2.0 PCI card is a natural upgrade from USB 1.0. Upgrade equals faster, much faster, but then you knew that. This single slot card only needed to improve overall performance to be good, but it turns out to be the right economical choice for a top quality, flawless working form of upgrade. I can't recommend various flavors on the back of postage stamps, and it's equally hard to compare one USB board to another, but this is an amazing price point for the perfect quality and function that comes with this board. It's highly recommended.
Does exactly what it says on the tin! July 14, 2008 Worked just as I expected. Once in the PCI slot the computer immediately recognized it and it works perfectly giving me USB 2 capability where it is needed (external HDD etc.). There are plenty of cheaper options in the market, but I went with this one because I felt that a branded model would have the best chance of immediately working well, and it does.
It's a no brainer July 9, 2008 I usually don't deal with the hardware side of my old HP. But I needed a USB 2.0 port for my new external hard drive. This is such a breeze to install. Just find an empty slot, put it in and voila! XP recognizes it right away. I was up and running with it in less than 10 minutes!
