Works well, have to stop it before removing. November 24, 2008 Just have to remember to use the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon from the system tray. If I don't it crashes the system about half the time. I'd give it five stars if I didn't have to do this.
Other than that, it works perfectly. I've been using this one for over a year, linking to a Polar HRM Watch.
Great device at a decent price October 12, 2008 After reading all of the review I settled on the Cables Unlimitted IRDA port. I put in the software, plugged in the USB IRDA port with the included USB extender cord and it worked like a charm. This is my first encounter with a IRDA port and it was most pleasent.
Good Alternative to Overpriced Polar Accessory September 9, 2008 Like many reviewers here, I purchased the Cables Unlimited USB1510 USB to IrDA Adapter to replace a Polar USB IR Interface that was failing. I found it looking for less expensive alternatives to the Polar version.
I'm using the Adapter with my Polar 610i, PPP v.4.03.050 and a ThinkPad running Windows XP Professional SP3. It's reading faster than my old Polar unit used to, and seems to have less trouble managing larger numbers of files. So far, it's excellent value for the price.
Strangely, the annoying little CD that came with the Adapter didn't have a driver for XP on it; however, there's one in the driver package that can be downloaded from the Cables Unlimited website. XP may also have a compatible driver already.
For those who are having trouble getting it to read, here are the settings noted by J. Gilmore in his review last year. With these settings, PPP should read through the Adapter with no problems:
Options -> Preferences -> Hardware -> IR Communication port -> This should be set to "IrDA" Options -> Preferences -> Hardware -> Mobile Connection -> Make sure this is unchecked Then from the same window: IR Communication port -> Options -> Make sure the first four boxes are checked.
Great choice June 26, 2008 It was a good selection for me because it does exactly what i needed, and compare to others it's price is fare.
Solved a problem for a tablet PC June 26, 2008 I needed to sync a Palm phone to a tablet pc, the Tablet PC did not have an IR. XP for tablet PC did not include a driver for my Palm Phone, was able to plug the IR into the PC and sync my phone to outlook for the first time. Have bought from Cables Unlimited multiple times, have always been happy with their service and speed of sending items.
