LOVE my Kindle... August 21, 2008 I'm a true bibliophile - love the feel of a book in my hand, the sheer joy of finding a book I can't put down, the art work on the covers, the admiration for really wonderful authorship. Several of the qualities I enjoy about books and reading are missing from the Kindle, of course, but that doesn't stop me from using it as an adjunct to my other reading pleasures. Some books are just "brain candy" and don't need to be kept forever on my bookshelf. Others are the kind I read mostly for information and are nice to have available for occasional referral, even when I'm not at home. Some I read just for the heck of it to see what the fuss is about. The main reason I love Kindle, though, is how I can carry a whole slew of reading material with me when I travel, or when I'm just out and about with the possibility of having a few minutes to fill with reading. If the wireless connection is turned off, my books are even available while in flight. It has saved my luggage from going over weight, too, as in the past I've had to get books out of my suitcase to get the weight down. With Kindle that's just not going to happen! I find it easy to read and easy to operate, too. I just loop the elastic over the lower right corner of the Kindle when it's inside the cover and it stays put without interfering with any of the control buttons. Being able to order directly from the Kindle is just genius - though I do have to watch my budget!
Wow, we have been waiting for this.... August 21, 2008 I simply love my Kindle. It has traveled with me to Sweden this past month and it was awesome to have all my books on it while there. To all of you that are surprised you can't use it outside of US of A...it clearly states that, and shouldn't be a surprise. I simply downloaded a few extra books for my monthlong trip, so I wouldn't run out of reading material. I even downloaded a few kids books on it, so I could have reading material for them ( 8 and 3) as well, the selection of childrens books aren't great, but that is equal with all ereaders, not just Kindle.
It is easy to use, lovely to read and so very practical. I have only charged mine twice since I got it in june-08 and I have read it about 2-3 hours daily. I have a lot of peeps in Sweden that are feverishly awaiting something like this over there, people in Sweden read a lot, so heads up Kindle folks, make it available there and it woulkd make a huge success.
Again, you can't go wrong buying this great piece of techie equipment.

Be very, very wary of Kindle outside the US August 21, 2008 What a disappointment! I bought a Kindle as a surprise birthday present for my wife. The surprise was on me. The Kindle books, available in 90 seconds via wireless, are not available if you are outside the US. We live in Canada. The website for ordering has State/province, but no provinces are listed. It has Zip/Postal code, but won't accept postal code format. So she has a lovely, useless bit of hardware and software, full of promises but no delivery.
Not too Happy August 21, 2008 I've been holding for "support" for about 15 minutes. This is the second time I've had this problem. My Kindle has been freezing up on me (I can't even turn it off). I know now how to stick the paperclip in the back, but I lose my place in the book and its rather inconvenient to carry around a paperclip. When I talked to someone last at the support number, they said it was common for the Kindle to freeze up about once a week. I've only had it 2 weeks so it's right on schedule I guess.....
Me & my Kindle are the best of buddies. August 21, 2008 With over 4,000 reviews written already - it's all been said. I just wanted to weigh in and let you all know that I've had my Kindle for about 4 months now and I LOVE it.
I'm a 54 year old, not too techie woman - but have been a big reader for all my life. The initial cost scared me a bit - it wasn't a purchase made lightly on my part. I can tell you - it's all good. No regrets. I'm reading even more that I ever did. I wouldn't have thought that possible. And not having to lug around all kind of books for all kinds of days.
It's wonderful. I could type all day and not be able to convey how much I appreciate this new wonder. If you're a serious reader Kindle will make you feel like a kid at Christmas again.
My only suggestions would be :) that in the next installment they make Kindle water proof so I can read in the bathtub (one of my favorite places to read) and they figure out how to sand proof it so we could take it to the beach.
Thank you Amazon for make reading even more pleasurable in my life.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Kindle.
