Don't buy this clock November 29, 2008 This clock is a piece of junk. True, it is has a very bright display, but it simply does not work as advertised. That is, it does NOT set itself to the correct time, and is impossible to set manually. I'm going to throw it out--it is not worth the time and expense to return it or send it back to the manufacturer.
great clock November 17, 2008 I bought this clock as a birthday gift for my visually-impaired Mom. She loves it! She says that the numbers are nice and large for her to see without her glasses at night. The clock practically lights up the room. The only down side to this item is that there is no brightness control which really isn't a problem for my Mother, but may be for someone else. It also doesn't have a volume control for the alarm but my Mom says the alarm isn't so loud it'll scare you to death! :-) She loves the feature that allows the clock to set itself when plugged in and set to the proper time zone. So I definitely recommend this clock to anyone who can't really see their clock at night.
Time is not accurate October 30, 2008 I bought one of these and thought it was great, so I bought 2 more. I noticed the time on my digital watch was different, but I kept assuming an atomic clock had to be right, so I kept changing my watch. Finally I put 2 of these clocks in the same room and found the times displayed differed by 8 minutes -- one showed 8:00 am and the other showed 8:08am. Then I checked them both against the official time and found one was 9 minutes behind and the other was 17 minutes behind the official time. This difference has persisted for weeks and still exists. Whatever they are supposed to do to adjust the time, they fail to do it accurately. Worse there is no way to fix it, and then last week they began to be 1 hour behind our official time, actually 1 hour and 8 minutes and 1 hour and 17 minutes behind. I just ordered new clocks as they are driving me nuts this way. They don't work.
The worst of the worst October 26, 2008 Setting this clock is a labor in futility. Either the directions are wrong, or it is easier to set up a NASA launch. The DST change is mis-set at the factory, keeping correct time is almost impossible, and I wouuld never buy another Insta-Set.
Auto-set works great, but has overrides if necessary April 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Excellent clock. The large numbers let me read it from across the room without my glasses on. It arrived displaying the correct time, but it does allow you to change the time shown in case it somehow arrived set incorrectly.
The current model includes FOUR daylight saving time calendar options. It arrives set to the new DST calendar adopted beginning in autumn 2007, but also includes three other DST settings: the pre-2007 calendar (should the US ever roll back to that), an "add DST right now" option, and a "we don't observe DST" option for you folks in Arizona.
The clock is designed for the U.S. mainland, with time zone options for Pacific, Mountain, Central and Eastern (sorry folks in Hawaii, Alaska and Canada's maritime provinces.)
Not sure why one reviewer complained about the flashing ":" in the time. It's miniscule compared to the large numbers surrounding it, you certainly can't see a blinking glow on the walls of your bedroom or anything like that.
