Amazon.com Product Description Measuring just under an inch thick and weighing less than half a pound, the Panasonic SL-SV590W personal CD player is a great fit whether you're working out at the gym, commuting on the train, or listening at home in the bedroom. The cover boasts a sleek white finish that's complemented by the pair of matching headphones, which sport a white headband of their own. More significantly, the unit plays more than just prerecorded CDs, with compatibility for both CD-R/RW discs and compressed MP3 files burned onto a CD-R/RW. The expanded playback options give users access to far more of their digital music library each time they leave the house. Active users will also appreciate the anti-skip protection and its related backup memory function, which combine to ensure a disruption-free listening experience whether you're driving or jogging. At the core of the SL-SV590W's audio performance is Panasonic's advanced D.sound technology, which comprises four main components: a digital amplifier that reduces distortion for a clearer overall sound; the bass-enhancing capacity of S-XBS super bass boost and the digital audio gain control; and an MP3 remastering function that restores much of the lost fidelity of compressed MP3 audio files. The system also kicks up the bass performance inside your headphones with its H.Bass technology, which reproduces the harmonic series of bass components that traditionally vanish within smaller speaker drivers. H.Bass gives the listener the sensation of a fuller bass sound even though it doesn't actually exist. Another nice feature is the SL-SV590's digital FM tuner, which lets you catch your favorite music, NPR, or public radio stations. Add in the unit's extra-long playback times--which extend up to 75 hours for MP3s and 33 hours for CDs on just two AA alkaline batteries (not included)--and you have a great CD player for long road trips or marathon workouts. Good product. Good base. Does not skip very often. I used to jog around the track with it and it did not skip. Very clear, does not hear hurt your ears.
Mostly a Good Buy May 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had a previous model of the same CD/MP3 player and liked it. It lasted several years so I bought this one. The sound is good (nice bass), the headphones it comes with are good (although I use earbuds purchased elsewhere) and the price is reasonable. BUT, they redesigned this model from the previous one I had and put the battery compartment in a tough spot. The flipped-open cover gets in the way of your fingers as you try to pry the two double-A batteries from inside. But, it's manageable. They also redesigned the display which is harder to read than the one on the old model. All in all, worth the money though.

If you listen to audiobooks its good because it has book marking It is very light weight On the negative side the battery compartment door breaks eventually then the batteries come loose with every jog you do.
Not Satified June 16, 2007 1 out of 7 found this review helpful
I was not satified as I did not know there was not AC port on the unit. Also I has a radio which I did not want.

Panasonic SL-SV590 good points:
- Reliable even when bumped or reading scratched CDs - Can play standard CDs more than 30 hours on two AA cells - 4 pre-set bass equalization settings (2 work with FM) and 2 pre-set "surround" settings (neither works with FM) may amuse restless youngsters - Pause and resume setting is retained when powered off - Station pre-sets are retained when battery is changed - Relatively straightforward and self-evident control layout - Plays MP3 - Good FM radio with stereo/mono and normal/city settings stores 20 frequencies in memory - Hold switch
Possible deficiencies for some users:
- Typically mediocre headphones included - "Flat" response claimed is +0.5, -7 dB @ 20-20kHz!! (Is this Panasonic's idea of a joke?) - Raspy distortion of voice and brass (typical McDigital sound) is evident even with best ("flat") settings when using excellent Sony MDR-V6 headphones - No AM radio - No MP3 encoding software is included (but thankfully none of Sony's buggy proprietary ATRAC spyware is included either) - Can't play WMA - No power or line jacks - Battery change is awkward - Controls and screen are tiny and nearly illegible - Lid opens very easily when edge is bumped - Button volume controls (typical of today's products but inconvenient compared to wheel) - Looks and feels cheap
In summary, this is a good modern product of its type for the price, and there may currently be none better at its price, but its deficiencies may lead some buyers to seek older better machines.
