It looks good, sound quality good, but just too many cons (no sound from gogear mp3, alarm volume super loud, bad fm reception) November 11, 2008 ok, so the item looks great, thought this would be perfect for us since mu hubby and i bothe have a GoGear MP3 player (a HDD6330) and it's almost impossible to find a docking speaker system for these GoGear MP3 players, so anyway we purchased it, looks fantastic on arrival, but volume wasn't working when we docked the MP3 player, we even sent a ticket in to philips, they suggested we send back for replacement, we did that, 2nd one we got, brand new, same problem when you dock the MP3 player no sound plays, you can use the remote to select play, pause, forward, back, but no darn sound, now we are no idiots, both of us work in the tech industries but still we spent too many hours trying to get the sound to play when the mp3 was docked, it didn't make sense, the sound plays fine for the radio (with bad reception mind you which also sucked). The instructions shows our mp3 gogear HDD6330 is compatible, after all it's a philips mp3 player trying to work with a philips speaker system - what an absolute shame. Since we have 2 mp3 players compatible we tried to get sound to play on both, same issue both times. What a shame it didn't work. So it gets 2 stars for design and wishful thinking. A few other cons would be:
CON #1. no way to adjust the very loud alarm - gets louder and louder extremely quickly, and when i mean loud i mean your neighbors might get woken up by it even if you're in a detached house 20 feet to another house etc.
CON #2. Will not give sound when you dock a GoGear HDD6330 MP3 Player even though the remote works for it when it's docked.
CON #3. The FM signals were very poor quality and crackling. We have a $5 buck alarm radio that does a better job.
Then the hopeful pro's:
PRO#1. Heard it works with you XM radio via the back AUX jack.
PRO#2. It looks nice and good sound from such a small system.
LOUD!!! ALARM September 4, 2008 After a get-together me and a few others had stayed over at a friend's house. At the crack of dawn all four of us jolted awake ready to grab our belongings...we were convinced there was a fire! The buzzer alarm was SOOOOO loud. The girl who owned it claimed she only used it as a dock and not for an alarm and had no idea how loud it was (someone from the night before must have turned the alarm feature on, either accidentally or purposely I don't know)
I then saw this same model while I was looking for an iPod dock of my own and remembered this had happened. No way would I want to wake up that way every morning! The only people who might like this are either hard-of-hearing, have major issues getting out of bed in the morning, or simply only use it as a dock as she did.
It's a shame too, because this dock has good features and a nice aesthetically-pleasing look.
Beware Really Loud alarm! September 2, 2008 Overall this product is ok but the biggest issue I have is that when using the iPod for your alarm it comes on at a low volume and gets really really loud really quickly. It's ok for just listening to your iPod, but the alarm is not good at all!
I would definitely recommend this radio August 18, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I really like this radio. I purchased it to listen to my iPod in the kitchen. It has a really good sound and it is so easy to use. It fits all 3 of our family's iPods because of the different docking choices. I like the remote however I wish you could control the iPod panel with it. All you can do with the remote is go forward and back and adjust the volume - you can't navigate using the menu on your iPod. I think it is a great purchase for the money.
A Great Product In A Small Package July 3, 2008 My daughter had one and I was impressed with the quality of sound and the small size of the unit. It is great for the bathroom.
