Perfect Harmony November 11, 2008 This works in perfect harmony with a JVC KD-HDR1 receiver that has HD radio. The functions are simple, the sound quality is great and I have had no issues even though I installed it myself in the trunk of Mustang convertible.
Affordable and Excellent Features November 1, 2008 I have JVC radios in my 3 cars. I really like their layout, displays and features, the buttons are not too small, they are large enough that they work for us, and you can turn the clock off if you want - our Corolla has a separate clock display, so we don't need it on the radio. The display is nice and colorful. I replaced a JVC analog stereo with the HDR30 in my wife's 2006 Toyota Corolla because I was looking for an HD Radio that also had the front Aux input to connect my GPS for road trips. The SD card on the GPS will play up to 1000 songs, so we really don't use the CD to play MP3s anymore. I have the KD-HDR1 in another car and really like the HD Radio and features. I researched other comparably priced HD Radios from Dual and others, but did not see the features I wanted, and (as another reviewer mentioned) something sticking out of the front of the radio in a USB slot is just waiting to get broken. I really like the JVC HDR-series automatically scrolling the song information without having to press buttons, and it keeps that setting so you don't have to change back to it every time you start the car. Also, the HD Radio sub-channels are nice to have when all the stations are playing commercials or other stuff we'd rather not listen to, and most (maybe all) are commercial free. I have not encountered the CD "clicking" problem, but downloaded and installed the update from the JVC site as another reviewer suggested.
I bought it from Barney's Electronics on Amazon, they had the best total price with shipping. I was a bit concerned that they would be slow in processing and shipping the order, but not to worry. They processed the order right away. I ordered the radio on Monday and UPS delivered it to me on Friday in Phoenix.
How did "lesbian" get suggested as a recommended tag for this product??
Perfection October 30, 2008 This is a slick looking, classy head unit. Built in easy to use HD, with scrolling track names and all that. One-touch access to activate the Aux in port on the front, one touch to go back to radio/CD. Plays MP3s and WMAs properly off a CD, the knobs feel good, the interface is simple but fully featured. Has a separate subwoofer control menu accessible by the Sel button which adjusts the level of the subwoofer-out line -without- altering the bass mix. Very useful if you've got knock in the trunk, or plan to. The remote's cool, but I don't really need it in my tiny compact.
Garish, but lovable for all that it does October 26, 2008 Pros: Does everything well.
Cons:
1. Garish - bright silver chromed plastic beams out from sickeningly festive red and blue lights around the main controls. i took off the plastic volume knob, removed the black rubber band around the knob, then sanded the chrome finish off the knob and spray painted it black. Then I put the rubber band back on and remounted the knob. This is the only piece that's easy to refinish, but it helps.
2. Using the iPod controller (optional) takes away the the ability to connect other JVC optional accessories, such as bluetooth.
3. Runs a tad warm, but this hasn't caused any problems, yet.
If you run into the problem with the CD player making clicking sounds, download the firmware update from JVC's website, unzip it, burn it to a CD and update your unit.
Other than the appearance of this unit, I'm very happy with it - it's very fully featured. Shop around on Amazon via the model number (KS-PD100 and also KSPD100) and you can pick up the iPod attachment very reasonably.
Full Featured and Quality Made without the Price August 25, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this car stereo because I have always trusted the quality of JVC products and I also purchased the iPod adapter, which I ran to the glove box. This is a great unit, easy to install, wonderful sound and radio reception and easy to use. You can run your iPod to the front jack or buy the adapter like I did. The adapter charges the iPod as well; however, the controls are transferred to the unit. Once you figure out how to navigate the iPod on the unit's face it is quite easy to use. The remote eve works to control the iPod. This is the best value for the money with built-in HD radio and input jack and the ability to hook up an iPod adapter or a Blue Tooth adapter. I love it.
