Product Description The double-DIN IVA-W505 is a full-featured DVD/CD/MP3/AAC/WMA/DivX audio/video head unit. Its large, crisp 7-inch WVGA touch-screen monitor enables users to easily access and command all their favorite media sources. The IVA-W505 features an all-new Graphical User Interface (GUI) with two display modes, "Professional" and "Stylish," to give consumers a choice of what and how much information is displayed on the monitor.Built on Alpine's proprietary Ai-NET BUS platform, the IVA-W505 can connect to and control a multitude of digital media sources and formats, such as XM or SIRIUS satellite radio (including XM Mini-Tuner and SIRIUS Plug And Play devices); HD Radio with multicasting; and Bluetooth devices, with voice-activated dialing. (Separate adapters and/or subscriptions required.) MP3/WMA players with MTP protocol and mass storage devices can easily be added via a direct USB connection. The IVA-W505 also has a high quality auxiliary input via the KCE-236B Full Speed to mini-jack cable (sold separately), for additional system building flexibility. The IVA-W505 is one of Alpine units that feature iTunes Tagging when the optional TUA-T550HD HD Radio Tuner is connected. When users hear a song they like from an HD Radio station that is broadcasting metadata, they simply press a special button on the IVA-W505.iPod music lovers who use the iPod classic (fifth and sixth generations) or iPod nano (first through third generations) can link to the IVA-W505 via a direct high-speed USB connection, resulting in fast data transfer, quick command response and superior iPod sound. If the iPod displays album art, the art also will be displayed on the IVA-W505's screen.

Good but not great September 23, 2008 The unit was recommended to me by a local car audio shop. Bought it over the phone and they put it in without me even see the unit first. I know, a little crazy. They told me it's the top of the line so I took their word for it. I never had other after market unit before so I have no basis for comparison. I thought it was expensive but it looked much better than the single din units. Trust me on this one. The touch screen is cool but I don't care much for the graphics. Very plain and only two themes, I would expect more at this price. How about some themes and skins? If they can do it for a darn cell phone, why can't you do it in a big hunk of metal like this, Alpine? Worked fine for my iphone and ipod, but the album cover is fuzzy. The sound from the ipod/iphone is a good but not great. It is much, much louder than my factory-installed unit, so it's great if you are looking to play some loud music. My ear drums were bleeding half way through the loudness setting so I can't tell you how loud it will get. My factory installed radio was not loud enough for some of my mp3 even at the highest volume. Did not get the blue tooth yet because the current Alpine bluetooth does not work at all with iphone. A new one is coming out, I heard. Did not get the GPS, which would be an Alpine Blackbird II, which also had lousy reviews. A new one supposed to be coming out before holiday 08. You just slide the portable GPS unit into the loading slot behind the video screen, a good idea if Alpine ever make a decent portable GPS. You can also get a back up video cam if you want to, not sure if it's worth $200, why not just turn you head? Finally, they are ordering me a cable so my passerger "wink, wink" can watch DVD while the car is moving. So may be I will update the review after that.
Bottom line, bare bone unit that work with ipod/iphone out of the box. Expect more bells and whistles for this price. For a fee, you can add blue tooth, GPS, rearview cam, HD radio, XM.
Just in case you have a Jaguar x-type, I ordered a mounting kit and wiring kit ($95 shipped) from bluspot.com.uk and you can put any single and double din unit in your car. Your dealer would tell you nothing would work, which is a lie. They also said aftermarket system will kill your fiber optic network, which is also a lie.
Now I have the DVD bypass installed. I was blown away. The picture is sharp, the sound is amazing. Wow, it's worth just getting it for the DVD alone. The screen also tilt in various angles for viewing. I have a little more time with the ipod interphase also, so still pretty happy with it.
