| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Bluetooth Hands-Free Transmitter provides a live full duplex communication solution using Bluetooth technology through FM transmission to your FM car radio and allows you to speak to callers through a built-in DSP microphone (it turns your car stereo to Giant Bluetooth Headset). This is accomplished without the use of external wires and without the hassle or expense of custom installation. The device is pairable with any phone equipped with Bluetooth functionality or a connection to a Bluetooth adaptor. Device is AD2P compatible and will transfer MP3 Music using AD2P.

Neat little gadget, adequate but not outstanding performance September 6, 2008 I purchased this product to be able to use my cellular telephone to play music heard though a car's stereo sound system. The device is also capable of allowing one to have a regular phone conversation using the car's audio system. I have only limited experience with using the device to make phone calls, so my review will focus primarily on music sound quality. When making phone calls, the party at the other end reported echoes.
Music quality from the Satechi is a solid B. Many songs sound indistinguishable from ordinary FM stations, but weird audio artifacts are often present -- think old cassette tape left out in the sun. This could have nothing to do with the Satechi itself, but with the way Bluetooth A2DP works. While the sound may not be audiophile quality, it is acceptable for car use, where the listening environment is far from ideal anyway. I used the Satechi with two different model phones -- an LG ENV2 and a Blackberry Curve, and in both cases the Bluetooth paring was easy and reliable and the sound quality was acceptable.
Keep in mind that performance also varies depending on the availability of a clear FM channel. In the heart of a city, it may be difficult to achieve optimal performance. The Satechi's FM output isn't very strong and requires a clean channel and one to raise the car's audio volume higher than usual to get good results.
The Satechi has a very limited control panel -- a single button for answering/ending a phone call and two FM tuning keys (+/-). When the device has Bluetooth-paired successfully, the display backlight changes from a steady color to two alternating colors. This slow blinking is incredibly annoying and distracting during night driving, as the eye picks up this blinking, even if the device is off in the periphery of one's vision. This blinking persists for as long as the device remains paired. As far as I know, there is no way to disable this blinking, so I made a cover for the Satechi that I flip up out of the way if I need to press a button or see the display.
The $99 still seems kind of expensive, but it's a cool device in a hacky sort of way, and there is a lack of better alternatives.
great handsfree solution August 17, 2008 I bought this device just in time to comply with the new WA state law against holding a cell phone while driving. The transmitter was very simple to set up and works perfectly with the stereo in my 2006 Corolla. I don't have to fiddle with an earpiece, and I can adjust the volume on the radio for comfortable conversation in any situation. When I turn the car on, my phone recognizes the device automatically, so no hassles there, and I can answer calls by touching one button on the transmitter. The device occasionally picks up other radio signals, but only for brief jots of time. We've hooked up an mp3 player and found that there's a lot of static - not sure why, it could be the mp3 player - but since the sole reason I purchased the transmitter was to chat while driving, I'm very pleased and happy with my purchase.
Bluetooth FM transmitter from Satechi May 31, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We have had the Satechi bluetooth fm transmitter for a month now and use it with our Nokia N95's in our 2 Subaru Outbacks. It is very easy to setup. It plays any audio format you can think of and passes it through to your car stereo. The handsfree talk quality on a phone call is very good. The background noise suppression as also very good. Three uses that we really enjoy with this unit is listening to audio books loaded on the N95, listening to Internet radio also on the N95 and of course handsfree phone call function. A few use tips, after initial setup, leave your bluetooth phone setting in "Hidden" status to avoid any interference from other bluetooth motorist on the highway. Do not try to "hardwire" the unit and bury in under your dash or in glove box, the units has a built in microphone for calls that needs to be accessible to your voice. The unit swivels at the base of the power stem so placement in vehicle power outlet is no problem. The customer support from Satechi is very good, I emailed them and received a prompt response. Overall, this is a very good product and would highly recommend it.
Great product, unbelievable customer service May 8, 2008 This is a very good product and the customer service is exceptional. All customers should be treated this way. Thanks Satechi!
Satechi road trip with Zune April 11, 2008 I took it on a road trip from The Woodlands, TX to Austin,
TX and it was great. The clarity was spot on, and being able to have a
30gb media player vs. 55 CD'd made the Satechi transmitter worth double
its cost. Thanks for a great product!
