Best phone around May 17, 2008 13 out of 15 found this review helpful
By far, this is the coolest phone around, believe me, I'm picky with this things. I bought it for my trip to europe (russia, ukraine, etc..) and downloaded the maps from nokia site for the GPS you won't believe I put the street and number and it appears in the screen, also, it has the capability of putting the information about near restaurants in your area. Downloaded USA maps and weorks just better than I ever though it was going to work. The camera is impressive, everything is automatic, so you don't need to do anything at all, just press the button ONCE and it flashes a red light, autofocus itself and take the picture, and ask you if it is ok while it's on the screen, if you choose back, IT IS READY to take another picture. Wifi is impressive, but the browser is tacky. I recommend you to download (FOR FREE) the opera web browser (the latest, I mean the BETA), works just perfect, opens every webpage. I use a russian sim card on it (my AT&T sim card has no coverage, remember, by this time, I'm in europe), and I can surf the web, and make phone calls, send pictures, etc. Also, downloaded the HANDY tools for it (clock, converter, weather) and they are perfect. There is a program ("Worldmate") that has all this tools, but is a piece of crap, It never worked, even having wifi, and the currencies are from USD to EUROS and that's it!!!! don't use that one, use these applications. You can even use the picture editor to crop, add effects, everything ON THE PHONE!!!, no PC at all. Music player is nice, has an equalizer and the speakers are pretty nice actually (for a phone), but you should buy the external nokia speakers with 4 AAA batteries, they are really cool. You can even crop the face of someone you took a picture, save it to the phone memory and make associate it to the contact, so when he/she calls you, you see the picture and know exactly who's calling you (works perfect if you have a lot of friends/laddies). Battery is great, you should turn off wireless search (for wi-fi) and bluetooth, the GPS only is active when you open nokia maps, so battery is only consumed when you record videos (in .mp4 format) I bought a 8GB microSD card, and everything is fine, not sure if it'll accept the 16 or 32 gb cards when they come out to the market. It uses profiles, so you can use silent profile (vibrating) or no SIM card profile (turn off cell phone capabilities while you have all others). you can download any applications and install them through USB connection or just download them to the microSD and install them through the phone. I bought mine from another provider, 499 plus taxes (has free shipping if you can wait one week), next day shipping was 50 USD. This is the perfect street/party/work phone, just take it out, push a button and you have nokia maps with GPS looking your position (less than a minute outside your house, if there are buildings near, it needs 10-20 seconds more to obtain your position), go to a party, take it out of your pocket, slide the camera switch on the back, and it's ready to take the picture with flash. press another button, and you can record a video, with the red light on just if he thinks you need light. want to check your emails, surf the web, YOUTUBE? turn on the wifi finder, and that's it. it even selects the best or you can choose it, you can even use the SIM card too. Silver color is fine, black is fine too, I got have black edition, and is really great. It's smaller than you think, but you are able to see the screen with a big sun or at night. It turns on and off REAL fast. Forget the iphone, or the n95/96, this is the coolest phone you'll ever have, because of its speed to do all things and its professional qualities (wifi, camera and GPS). I have seen other tourists with those 2 phones, and they get a lot more time of what I do in less than 10 seconds or they cannot do it at all (with the iphone: NO GPS, NO 5mpx cam, NO flash, LOCKED so no european cheap SIM cards, NO NOTHING!!!). By the way, this is a cell phone.
